Gynecological problems haunt a woman to one extent or another almost all of her life. It all depends on the characteristics of the female body and the functions assigned to it. It was revealed that the second most common disease of this sphere is uterine fibroids. Not so long ago, this problem was solved radically - by removing this organ. Today, there are ways to treat myoma, preserving not only the uterus itself, but also the reproductive function.
This disease is a benign tumor, which rarely turns into a malignant one. It follows that this diagnosis should not be considered a sentence. You just need to consult with a specialist and choose the right treatment, depending on the degree of damage, tumor growth rate and other factors.
Most often, this disease is found in women over the age of 30 years. The reasons can be varied. Gynecologists at the same time distinguish several factors related to the risk group. The main one is frequent surgical interventions (abortions). In addition, women who have given birth or given birth once are also more likely to have a tumor. It is easier to treat uterine fibroids if the problem is identified in the early stages. In such cases, only hormone therapy may be needed. One can talk about a complete cure without surgery only in the case when the tumor is small.
If the ultrasound “accidentally” detected small myomatic nodes, then it is already necessary to take measures, not hoping that they will not grow or pass on their own.
When uterine fibroids are detected , it must be treated immediately. I must say that if there is no indication for surgery (the tumor does not grow or grows slowly, the patient’s young age, small changes), conservative methods of therapy are used. This includes hormonal and non-hormonal drugs. The latter include the intake of vitamins in the autumn-winter and spring periods, the treatment of anemia, the normalization of sexual activity and a healthy lifestyle. Herbal therapy is also included here.
To treat myoma with hormonal drugs, most often, is prescribed in preparation for the operation. Used drugs (among them "Zoladex", "Buserelin", "Diferelin") help to reduce the tumor by 30-50%. Thanks to this, it will be possible to carry out an operation with the preservation of the organ (removal of only nodes) or to remove the uterus using the laporoscopic method. If after hormone therapy the operation is not performed within a month and a half, there is a high risk that tumor growth will resume. In addition, taking these drugs for a long time is not recommended because of the possibility of side effects.
It is necessary to mention myomectomy, an operation that allows you to treat myoma surgically, while preserving the uterus. It is performed for women who are going to give birth subsequently. In this case, patients are immediately warned that in the future the appearance of new myomatic nodes is possible. Myomectomy is done using various surgical approaches, laparoscopically, vaginally, hysteroscopically. In each case, the method is selected individually.
Recently, uterine artery embolization has been practiced , a modern and reliable way to treat fibroids. It is an operation performed by endovascular surgeons. Its essence is selective "blockage" of small vessels that feed the tumor nodes. Left without food, the myoma begins to gradually “dry out”, and the nodules are separated from healthy tissue. As a result of this procedure, after a few months, the tumor is reduced by almost half. However, you should know that this is a rather painful intervention, and you may have to spend some time in the hospital after it.
