"Raid": actors of the best action movie of the decade

The new project of the British director Gareth Evans - the relentless action movie "Raid" (front-end actors I. Yuvays and D. Taslim) - can serve as a clear proof that if you throw all the conventions out of the action movie, you will get pure slapstick. This is what the comedy of scuffles is called - a genre characteristic of early cinema, borrowed a lot from the circus program.

Synopsis

The plot story of the film "Raid" the actors described extremely sparingly. In reality, everything that happens is determined by the name. The action takes place in a disrepair Indonesian high-rise building, which the local drug lord turned into an impregnable fortress laboratory. A special forces detachment is sent there to clean up the building from criminal elements, but as a result, the bandits clean up the high-rise building from representatives of the rule of law. This is a brief description of the plot of the furious action movie Raid. The actors invited to the production of tapes are masters of Indonesian martial arts, especially the national wrestling penchak silat.

"Bloody massacre"

The script and plot of this completely implausible, but truly virtual bloody massacre are absolutely secondary to beautifully executed concert numbers, in which the protagonists and antagonists demonstrate excellent mastery of martial arts and edged weapons.

In essence, the Gareth Evans project can be described as a kind of silent movie. Character characters are not visible in it, only bodies in perfect physical form, acting with enviable agility. The creators of the film decided to adhere to the canonical Aristotelian approach to the tragedy, according to which the action itself and the scenery are many times more important than the words of the actors. Nevertheless, after the premiere in Toronto of the movie "Raid", actors, viewers and critics recognized one of the best action movies of the decade.

Casting cast

The performer of the role of the main character, the leader of the special squad of the Rama police, the Indonesian film actor Iko Yuvays is known to the audience for his participation in the Merantau, Raid and his 2014 sequel. In 2015, he played a cameo role of one of the smugglers of the Han Solo crew in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The performer has the title of champion of Indonesia in national fighting wrestling silat. His acting talent, demonstrated in "Raid", has earned several criticisms, but all the mistakes Yuvays easily compensates for in the action episodes.

The role of sergeant Jack, who died at the hands of the drug lord, was played by Joe Taslim, a professional judoka and aspiring actor. Participation in the action movie "Raid" became a real springboard for the artist in the development of his creative career. He effortlessly auditioned for the role of an antagonist in Fast and the Furious 6, and in 2016 he got the opportunity to take part in the production of the movie Star Trek-3.

The main antagonist, a reputable drug lord, justifying his nickname Rabid Dog, performed by Yayan Rukhiana is extremely charismatic. The actor is a regular training partner and screen partner of Iko Yuvays.

Supporters

Other characters are quite stereotyped, the performers did not have the opportunity to demonstrate the full range of acting. This is the only drawback of the tape, although this is completely unimportant. After all, the project of Gareth Evans is an action movie, not a conversational dramatic picture.

The role of assistant drug lord, and part-time sibling Andy, was played by actor Donny Alamsyah. The pre-Raid artist preferred the national film industry, but, like most actors, after the successful premiere of the original film, he migrated to the Raid 2 sequel.

Pierre Gruno reincarnated as a low-key lieutenant Vahue, for whom the film directed by Gareth Evans became the debut international film project.

The drug lord Tama embodied on the screen Ray Sakhetapi. The filmography of the actor consists of 20 tapes, in which the national Indonesian and foreign paintings alternate in equal numbers.
