Permissible noise level in residential premises

I dare to suggest that any resident of a big city often wants such simple (at first glance) things as silence. Citizens have something to envy for those who live in the provinces, because they only have to dream of a quiet and peaceful place. It would seem that the house is the place where you can relax from the bustle, cars and people, but here we are surrounded by noise streams. If initially, in the understanding of people, housing was perceived primarily as a secluded, protected space in which we are surrounded by close people, in which we are pleasantly and comfortably located, now due to many factors we can no longer call our house a fortress.

In modern conditions, "in cramped, but not offended," it is very important to be able to isolate yourself from society and protect personal space, because a violation of your space can lead to various negative consequences. Extraneous noise in the house, which brings discomfort to you and others, is one of the violations of space, which is why it is worth knowing that there is a maximum permissible noise level and have an idea of what sanitary standards exist in connection with this.

In general, in the modern world, noise pollution is one of the global problems, the solution of which is quite acute for society. The permissible noise level is derived in accordance with the standards and GOST, everyone should be aware of these standards without exception.

If we talk about the consequences of what the effects of high levels of sound waves on the body can lead to, it is worth mentioning about hearing diseases. The most dangerous thing is that you can lose it completely. Other extremely undesirable consequences are disorders of the nervous system. Regular negative effects on the body of extraneous factors lead to nervous breakdowns, lack of sleep, insomnia.

The permissible noise level is an indicator that does not cause discomfort in a person or changes in the functional state of body systems. Due to this definition, excess noise in the apartment is not only dangerous to health, but also a guilty wrongful act. Violation of sanitary standards should be punished, therefore, if the noise from your neighbors is regular and exceeds the norm and prevents you from living quietly, you can go to court and not only punish the perpetrator, but also get compensation for moral damage.

Sanitary standards. Permissible noise level in residential premises:

- in the afternoon (from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.) the sound norm should not exceed 40 decibels (maximum 55 dBA);

- at night , the sound level is on the verge of 30 dBa, and the maximum is 45 dBa.

In order to make it easier for you to navigate, let's figure out what these decibels are equivalent to. So, for example, 40 dBA is ordinary human speech, a whisper just below, a scream just above. Everything above 60 is characterized as “very noisy”, i.e. however, you can already tell your neighbors about your indignation. The “extremely noisy” side is the indicator of 100 dBA, this is the volume level of the orchestra or thunder.

There are also types of noise sources. They are divided into internal and external. If the sources of internal noise are located directly in the building and if the human factor is at fault, then you can adjust the permissible noise level. External sources (transport, enterprise, construction, etc.) are practically not amenable to control (with rare exceptions).

In the event that the cause of your discomfort is the elevator, the garbage chute, etc., then it is worth complaining to the HOA or housing and communal services. The fight against such bodies requires a great deal of endurance and knowledge of all laws, so be prepared to meet with them if you seriously want to start a fight for silence.

If neighbors who violate the permissible noise level are to blame, then you should first talk to them. Does not help - go to court.

In any case, if you know that someone is violating your rights, do not sit still, start a fight and be sure that the truth will be on your side.
