Some expressions in Russian speech remain unchanged for many centuries. They have not lost their relevance, they are still used by native speakers as part of phraseological units or paired with adjectives for a detailed description of the situation. However, they are inaccessible to foreign citizens and young people. For example, the younger generation cannot always determine the meaning of the word โdiscordโ. This is not surprising, because the interpretations are difficult to follow based on the colloquial vocabulary of the 21st century.
Slavic roots
What to do? It is enough to look into the dictionaries of Eastern European states: the closest concept in Ukrainian and Russian cultures is โdifferentโ. Also, in the framework of the Old Russian language, experts point out to be rooted or "hostility." Czech ruzny translates to:
The speaker under study defines significant differences between the two subjects. Moreover, those that can lead to a conflict situation.
Modern communication
And there are plenty of examples! After all, the classic combination of "ethnic hatred" is a particular example, when the word is specified using the epithet. This is the first value that stands for:
- disagreement;
- enmity;
- quarrel.
They mean a sharply heated situation, which can lead to offenses, to hefty financial losses, injuries or even deaths. In the modern world, it is more often used to indicate disagreements between social groups. But it is only relevant in a colloquial format, and in official documents or business correspondence is replaced by synonyms.
There is a second version of the interpretation that emerged from the stable expression "subject to discord." Here, the word acts as the same predicate, and the objects of comparison can change, but should be from the same category. In this case, the concept takes on meanings:
A speaker can say that there are perennial flowers and quickly withering, talented students and those who need constant supervision for successful training. Similar but distinctive!
In everyday speech
The definition is neutral, although it periodically acquires a negative connotation. Clashes between religions and nations often occur, because of which strife is a direct association with human sacrifice, with the loss of cultural property and with the decline in living standards as a result of the struggle. But as part of phraseologism, it will help convey to the interlocutor the hypothetical differences of some phenomena or things with all their apparent external similarities.
