Films made on the basis of any literary works rightfully occupy a special place in the cinema.
A book is something that each reader perceives in his own way: in accordance with his individual perception, he presents the appearance of the characters, their feelings, emotions and character. In this film is slightly inferior to literature, because the entire visual part is already quite specifically conveyed by the director, which leaves almost no room for imagination. But a good book can be a great script.
Many of the films that have become legends are adaptations: The Great Gatsby, Fight Club, Gone With the Wind, and others. Among them is Wuthering Heights (2009), based on the work of the same name by Emily Bronte, which was written in 1847.
Plot of the film
The action takes place in Northern England, County Yorkshire. The film tells the story of two families - Earnshaw and Linton. It all starts with the fact that one day Mr. Ernshaw, the owner of Wuthering Heights Estate (after whom the book is named and, therefore, the film), finds a boy dying of hunger on the street. He decides to save him and brings him to his house. The boy is given the name Heathcliff.
He grows up with Katherine and Hindley Earnshaw, who became his named sister and brother. However, changes are taking place in their family ties. Over time, Katie and Heathcliff realize that they feel for each other something more than just kindred feelings. But they are not destined to be together, and the main drama of the whole film is tied to this.
Actors of the film Wuthering Heights
The main roles of Heathcliff and Katherine Earnshaw are performed by Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley. Actors of Wuthering Heights Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Lancashire, Andrew Hawley, Rosalyn Halstead and others played minor characters - members of the Ernshaw and Linton family: Edgar, Mrs. Ellen Dean, Garton, Isabella.
It is worth noting that the characters in the film are slightly smaller compared to the original novel by Emily Bronte. But this almost does not affect the global plot, since the missing characters in the literary work had minor roles.
