The Whirlwind submachine gun is a shortened prototype of the Val machine with a silencer. For firing from weapons, specially designed nine-millimeter cartridges with subsonic bullet speed are used. "Whirlwind" is fully automatic, firing is carried out using the removal of powder gases, which is why the submachine gun is often called a submachine gun. Due to its small size and shortened barrel, the weapon has not the best combat indicators, the effectiveness and range of destruction is greatly deteriorated.
The modified striking mechanism allows the Whirlwind submachine gun to be used as a firing single shots and bursts. The lethal force of armor-piercing cartridges allows hitting a target at a distance of up to two hundred meters. At this range, a bullet fired from a weapon is capable of piercing a steel plate six millimeters thick, while preserving the lethal actions and speed behind the affected target. This power of armor-piercing rounds is well suited for firing at protected targets. At a distance of 150 - 200 meters, a bullet is capable of penetrating body armor from the first to the third class.
The main advantages of the weapon are its small mass and reduced dimensions. Submachine gun "Whirlwind" is well suited for special operations, which require increased stealth and speed of combat. The bullet fired from the barrel has a muzzle energy of 600 J, which is a very high rate. The size and good weight of the ammunition allow you to save cartridge energy during flight, thereby ensuring effective destruction of targets at a distance of up to two hundred meters. In terms of its performance, the weapon surpasses all analogues using pistol cartridges.
Submachine gun "Whirlwind" is easy to use, easy to disassemble and maintain. The weapon has two modes of warfare, using a modified trigger mechanism, firing is carried out with single shots. If it is necessary to release several rounds at once, then the Whirlwind can be easily switched to the automatic bullet release mode. The lever for changing the battle mode is located near the trigger, such a convenient location does not require removing the hand from the handle of the weapon for quick switching.

Deficiencies exist in any type of weapon, and the Whirlwind submachine gun is no exception. The modified prototype, similar to the “Val” muffler with a silencer, is distinguished by a shortened muzzle, therefore, it cannot be called silent. For the automatic firing of weapons, the stock of cartridges in the store is sorely lacking. Especially considering that when shooting in bursts, the barrel of the submachine gun leads away from the line of sight. The increased mass of ammunition limits the supply of portable ammunition. Butt and shoulder rest have insufficient rigidity, because of this the accuracy of bullets hitting the target decreases.
