On December 30, 2010, a drama from South Korea directed by Yu Ha called "Ice Flowers" was released at the box office. The film is historical, with costumes, decorations and heroes inherent in the genre. Despite the small budget of the picture, the whole action looks and the scenery is quite believable.
The game of the actors should be noted separately, it looks gorgeous and does not allow you to take your eyes off the screen for a second. The actors in the film “Ice Flowers” are quite stellar, but this does not distract the viewer and does not prevent him from believing what is happening. The movie was shot very beautifully, starting with the costumes of heroes and scenery, ending with the setting of fights that look quite realistic for an Asian film. Bed scenes are also frequent, including homosexual ones. For a large number of erotic moments and scenes of violence, the painting “Ice Flowers” was assigned the highest age rating of 18+.
Once again about the love triangle
The film "Ice Flowers" takes place in medieval Korea, enslaved by the Yuan empire. To save his state, the Korean monarch, incapable of intercourse with a woman, orders his lover and at the same time the head of the royal guard, Hon Rim, to sleep with the queen for the production of a legitimate heir. During the film, a rather unconventional love triangle arises in which a woman and a man fight for the love of the main character. The center of this "figure" becomes the beloved of King Hon Rim. Having known love with a woman, he can no longer remain the same. Gradually, a love arises between him and the queen, based, rather, on sexual attraction. The king is unable to bear betrayal. The relations of the heroes turn into a real confrontation. In search of Hon Rome, the king does not stop at anything, starting with the murder of his friends and ending with the blackmail of the queen by her unborn child.
Love drama
Despite the large number of battle scenes, the tape is a classic drama with its inherent elements, and most importantly in it is a story about human relations. The film “Ice Flowers” is a classic story about love and betrayal. The pain of the protagonist - the king - is shown by the actor so reliably that this cruelty even causes understanding. He is the owner, accustomed to own everything and get everything, even if it's all - human life. And even the love of Hon Rome sometimes seems to be just a feeling of possessiveness. And it’s a pity in this film everyone: the loyal king, and the queen with her lover, who are forbidden to be together. This tape can be compared, rather, with a picture of the artist than with a confusing and unpredictable detective novel. The movie “Ice Flowers” will seem provocative to many because of the raised topic of unconventional love. However, this is most likely just a subtle authorial move designed to add even more drama to an already tragic plot.
Korean Brokeback Mountain
And let the dialogue in the film be simple, and the plot moves are predictable and primitive, but the result is a picture that can safely be called a masterpiece of not only Korean, but also world cinema.
