Scale 2 to 1. How it is used in drawing

Parts with very small dimensions are almost impossible to build on the drawing. How do specialists get out of the situation? In this case, a 2 to 1 scale is used in the drawing document. We will talk about this in practice in this article.

Scale - a value showing exactly how many times the picture was reduced or increased in comparison with the original.

Where is it used?

Without a scale, it is impossible to draw a single geographical map, because a settlement cannot be depicted in real size. To do this, all data is reduced many times.

Scaling is used when displaying dimensional objects:

  • details of cars, aircraft;
  • structural elements of any structures.

In this case, use a reduction scale.

Drawing scale

If cartography uses only the zoom scale, then drawing can also be a reduction of objects. It should be noted that in each drawing form there is a column in which the scale is indicated. Even if a full-size object is depicted on the drawing-graphic document, it will be marked 1: 1 on it.

There is a “Unified system of design documentation”, where the rules are indicated:

  • scaling;
  • hatching;
  • location of parts;
  • filling in the main inscription.

Let's get back to our question: “What does 2 to 1 scale mean?” How does this work on drawing documents? Images in the drawings are recommended to be created using the actual dimensions of the object. But what if the subject is very large or vice versa very small compared to the available sheet formats?

Then you have to increase or decrease it. So, a 2 to 1 scale is just the case when an object needs to be doubled. For example, it may be a part of a watch or machine mechanism.

How to build a drawing with a scale of 2 to 1?

This, as it were, is the smallest of all scales of increase. To build a part, it is necessary to take measurements. All data is multiplied by 2. The drawing is created in double sizes. At the same time, the designers remember that the dimensions of the angles and radii of fillets do not need to be changed. There are times when you need to enlarge only certain parts of the drawing. Then under them put such a signature as "scale 2 to 1". This gives information to the engineers that only the selected object is enlarged in the drawing.

To date, only very narrow specialists calculate the scale manually. Computers have long and successfully replaced them in this complex business. But to know what such a concept as scale shows, and how to roughly calculate it, every educated person should.
