Many Russian hunters have long been using the products of an engineering plant called the Hammer. Three-rulers and self-loading rifles from the Bekas series, Simonov’s hunting fishing rifles, smooth-bore, as well as semi-automatic rifled models from the Vepr line are all the brainchild of a plant located in Vyatskiye Polyany. History of creation
In 2010, seven decades have passed since the founding of the Molot engineering plant. It was created during the Great Patriotic War for the serial production of Shpagin submachine guns - PPSh. In peacetime, in parallel with weapons, other products came out from under the machine tools, from washing machines to ice skates.
With the onset of the nineties of the last century, Soviet industry began to decline. The defense industry did not escape this fate. Therefore, in order to survive, Hammer switched to large-scale production of weapons for hunting. The Ministry of Defense has reduced its orders for rifle models. And therefore, the arms factories had to adapt their production lines, which produced army products, to civilian products. The first to decide on this was Izhmash, followed by the Hammer located in the Kirov Region. Based on the famous AK, the designers created their own model - a self-loading carbine, firing a cartridge of the same size. The name of the model was given to “Boar”.
Already in 1994, Russian hunters had the opportunity to get acquainted with a new gun, manufactured initially under the cartridge 7.62x39, and a little later - under the .308Win. Over time, it began to be produced in various caliber and performance.

The first Vepr-308 was as similar as possible to a PKK. Only the trigger mechanism was excluded, in which the self-timer was excluded, and new forms of the trigger, whisper and retention elements were also designed. The barrel is chromed. It is made by cold forging. The Vepr-308 carbines have a reinforced locking unit and a slightly modified gas removal unit.
