More and more often, our tourists are not limited to package tours with their organized excursions, but think through their own route, easily moving between different cities and countries. For this, all that’s needed is to think over an approximate route of movement and rent a car. And here it is worth recalling the existence of such a document as an international driving license, or International Driving Permit.
Some of our citizens think that their Russian license is an international driver’s license, but it’s not. To drive a car abroad, you need to receive an additional document. True, if you are traveling to the countries of the former Soviet Union, you can limit yourself to domestic rights. But in more than two hundred countries of the world you must have with you an international driver’s license. Of course, with luck, you can find small car rental offices that turn a blind eye to the lack of International Driving Permit. Or you can travel by car and not worry about renting. But in the event of a traffic accident or if you have violated the rules of the road, the lack of an international driver’s license will not be in your favor. And this is important.
Registration of an international driver’s license will not take you much time, you do not have to pass any additional exams. International Driving Permit is a translation of your rights into the main languages ​​of the United Nations, of which there are only eight: English, Spanish, French, Russian, German, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese. You just need to contact the traffic police and provide a package of documents, which includes such papers:
- a passport or other document proving the identity of the applicant and his registration at the place of residence;
- original of a valid driver’s license;
- application in the prescribed form;
- driver card;
- medical certificate (original and copy);
- matte photo measuring 35 * 45 mm (black and white or color);
- receipt of payment of duty.
The state duty for the issuance of international rights is one thousand rubles. To date, you can not stand in lines in the traffic police, and fill out an application through the portal of public services, and then bring all the documents at the appointed time.
An international driver's license is valid for three years. However, if your internal rights expire earlier, then International Driving Permit will have to be replaced. And if you have lost a Russian driver’s license, moved or changed your name, then you will also need to get another international license.
