Historical facts
Back in 1935, residents of the Volgograd region with cancer, began to provide specialized medical care. It was then that an oncology center was created at the surgery department of the First Soviet Hospital.

Three years later, in 1954, the head physician of the Oncology Dispensary in Volgograd, received a new building with sixty beds. This made it possible to raise the medical and diagnostic work to a new level and create specialized departments. In the same year, the first operation was performed here - breast resection and radical mastectomy. In 1957, another new operation was performed - gastrectomy.

On October 27, 1994, the Volgograd Region Health Committee established the Volgograd Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary - the state budget medical organization.

In addition, the diagnostic department carries out analyzes for tumor markers, immunoserological studies, immunochemical studies of blood serum and urine proteins by gel electrophoresis (to detect myeloma, Waldenstrom's disease, lymphoproliferatic diseases), as well as cytological studies (scrapings of neoplasms, etc.).
Specialists of the institution are able to detect cervical cancer in the early stages by taking a liquid cytological test, examine the cytological preparations of the most complex cytological cases, conduct immunohistocytochemical studies of surgical materials, determine the hormone dependence and proliferation index of breast malignant tumors, and also verify complex oncological diseases.

Treatment Departments of the Oncology Center
