Recently released the third movie of the updated X-Men series from Marvel: X-Men: Apocalypse. The actors of the project were mainly involved the same as in the last two films, but there were some newcomers.
X-Men: Apocalypse
More than a decade ago, the first films about the adventures of people with the X gene were shot. Later, a separate film was shot dedicated to Wolverine - one of the main characters of the epic.
Seeing that the audience’s interest in this project is not running out, the company Marvel decided to continue to shoot films about mutants. So the movie X-Men: First Class appeared, starting with which the cast began to gradually be replaced. In the next film of the epic, thanks to a journey into the past of one of the heroes, it was possible to justify its restart.
At the moment, the newest in this series is the film "X-Men: Apocalypse" (2016). The actors, in this project, almost completely replaced all who performed the roles of mutants and their enemies, earlier.
According to the plot, Professor X reopened his school, where new students appeared. Agent Moira McTaggert, during another investigation, becomes a witness to the resurrection of the ancient mutant Apocalypse, who dreams of subjugating the world. To implement his plans, he enhances the ability of weaker mutants. So he subjugates Magneto, grieving due to the fact that his wife and daughter were killed, despite the fact that he tried to help people. Next on the path of the Apocalypse was Professor X. Taking it with him, the ancient mutant wants to take possession of Charles. Meanwhile, students at Xavier’s school are attacked by Colonel Stryker. However, Gene, Kurt, and Scott, hiding in a helicopter, infiltrate Stryker’s military base and save their friends. Together, under the leadership of Mystic and the Beast, they find the Apocalypse and after a difficult battle destroy the enemy and save the planet.
Charles Xavier (Professor X) performed by James McAvoy
Among those who played the main characters in the movie "X-Men: Apocalypse", there are actors (photo below) who have long been famous. And also those who have not had time to achieve great success in their careers.
The role of Professor X, which was previously performed by Patrick Stewart, went to the famous Scotsman James McAvoy ("Especially Dangerous", "Jane Austen", "Atonement", "Conspirator" and "Victor Frankenstein"). For him, this is the third motion picture in which he plays the role of Charles Xavier. It is noteworthy that the hero of McAvoy in this part of the epic finally lost his hair and became similar to the canonical image of Professor Xavier.
Magneto performed by Michael Fassbender
Sadly, in recent years, McEvoy was no different than participating in the X-Men saga, but his career as Michael Fassender, the villain Magneto, is on the rise.
Starting with small roles in television series, this artist pretty soon won the fame of a universal actor capable of playing any role.
In addition to the numerous cinematic awards he received, this actor was twice nominated for an Oscar and three times for a Golden Globe.
His most famous works are the films Jane Air, Hunger, Shame, 12 Years of Slavery, Strict West, Macbeth, and Steve Jobs.
For Fassbender, the third picture in which he plays Eric Lensher is X-Men: Apocalypse. Actors and roles often have much in common. This statement is not too true in this case. So, Magneto is a German Jew, and Michael Fassbender is a German Irishman. The rest of the features of the actor and his characters are different.
If you compare Fassbender with Magneto’s previous cast, Ian McKellen, you can see that they turned out to be completely different characters. The hero performed by Michael is much more charming, but at the same time more tragic. Many viewers note that in the last movie, Eric was made excessively soft and limp in comparison with the previous two films.
Mystic performed by Jennifer Schrader Lawrence
In restarting the franchise, not only Magneto was rehabilitated, but also his faithful assistant Mystic. In all three films, this role was played by Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence.
Like Fassbender, Lawrence is now at the forefront of popularity.
In addition to Mystic, she played another cult heroine - Katniss Everdeen in the film adaptation of Susan Collins novels. Also, the fame for the actress brought roles in the films "My Boyfriend is Crazy", "Joy" and "Passengers".
After the success of the X-Men: Apocalypse film, the actors involved in the project signed a contract with Marvel to participate in other parts of the epic. However, Lawrence has not yet done so. Moreover, in an interview, the actress said she did not plan to return to the role of Mystic. Fans can only hope that in the future she will change her mind.
Nicholas Holt as Hank McCoy
Together with Jennifer Lawrence, Briton Nicholas Holt starred in all three of the last epic films.
His hero is the brilliant scientist Hank McCoy, who turns into a mighty beast with blue fur. This character played an important role in the victory over the main villain in the film "X-Men: Apocalypse."
Actors and roles (photo below) are often very intertwined. So, according to the plot, between the Beast and the Mystic there were romantic feelings, but because of the circumstances they could not build a full-fledged relationship. In reality, the performers of these roles, Jennifer and Nicholas, also fell in love with each other. Their romance lasted almost 2 years, however, due to constant traveling, the actors dispersed.
If Lawrence was already famous before the role of Mystic, then Holt - no. Despite the fact that he previously starred in many television series and several films, his popularity came after the role of Hank McCoy.
Since then, he began to be invited to the main roles in cash projects. He played in the tapes “The heat of our bodies”, “Jack - the conqueror of giants”, “Autobahn” and the recently released film “Equal”.
In numerous interviews, the actor emphasized that he plans to return to the role of the Beast in the future.
Apocalypse - actor Oscar Isaac
The main villain in this film is one of the oldest mutants in history - the Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur).
This anti-hero was played by an American actor of Guatemalan origin, Oscar Isaac.
Before participating in the X-Men epic, he starred in many films ("Robin Hood", "We. Believe in Love", "Inside Lewin Davis"), but fame came to him recently.
Interesting fact: En Sabah Nura first appears in the Marvel Universe after the final credits of X-Men: Days of Future Past. True, in that movie, he was played by Brendan Pedder.
Character named Mercury
As you know, in the Marvel Cinema Universe, to which the X-Men saga belongs, all the characters and stories are connected. However, a patch has recently occurred with this. The point is a character named Mercury (Peter Maximoff).
In the epic The Avengers, the second picture of which has recently been released, the twins Peter (Pietro) and Wanda Maximoff, known as the Mercury and the Scarlet Witch, appear. Their abilities are presented as a result of exposure. According to the Marvel comics, these heroes are mutants who inherited superpowers from their parents (by the way, their father is Magneto). But the Avengers does not say anything about this, moreover, at the end of the movie, Pietro dies.
In the X-Men series, Mercury exists parallel to The Avengers. He has a completely different biography here.
Significantly more space in the plot is given to this hero in the film "X-Men: Apocalypse." The actors who played Mercury in these projects are different. In Avengers, this is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and in X-Men, Evan Peters. Interestingly, they both starred in the movie-parody of the superhero films “Kick-Ass”.
Sophie Turner debuts as Phoenix (Jean Gray)
Among the performers of the main characters in the film "X-Men: Apocalypse" - actors who first appeared in this project. Among them is Sophie Turner, known to viewers for her role as Sansa Stark in the cult television series Game of Thrones.
In the X-Men epic, Sophie got the role of the young Phoenix (Jean Gray-Summers) - the beloved of Wolverine and Scott Summers, as well as the best student of Professor X. Previously, this character was played by Famke Janssen.
It is worth noting that for Sophie, the role in this project is the first significant achievement after the Game of Thrones. Despite the doubts of the fans, the actress perfectly played her character, and, no doubt, the audience will still see Gene Gray in her performance in future epic films.
Other actors in the movie X-Men: Apocalypse
In addition to the above, other equally talented people were shot in the project. Among them are Ty Sheridan, who played Scott Summers in this epic, as well as Cody Smith-McPhee as Kurt Wagner, Alexander Shipp as the young Storm and Olivia Mann as Psylocke. Like Sophie Turner, they all made their debut as superheroes in this picture.
But Lucas Till (Hawok), Rose Byrne (Agent Moira McTaggert) and Josh Helman (Colonel Stryker) returned to the roles they had previously performed.
A pleasant surprise for the audience was the unexpected appearance of Wolverine - Hugh Jackman. And although his character does not play an important role in the plot of this picture, perhaps his participation will play the role of advertising for the future film Wolverine 3: Old Man Logan.
Truly assembled a galaxy of great artists, the film "X-Men: Apocalypse"! The actors and roles in this project corresponded to each other, thanks to which, despite the average ratings of critics, the movie collected at the box office half a billion dollars.
In 2017-2018 announced the release of another tape from this epic. So far, this project is called "New Mutants." The plot and release dates are kept secret, but it is already known that Makevoy and Fassbender will star in the upcoming movie. And which of the actors the spectators will still see in the new movie is still a secret.
