What is habilitation? The answer to this question is far from everyone knows. That is why we decided to devote this article to an explanation of this term.
General information
Abilitation is a certain system of pedagogical and recreational activities that are carried out with the aim of preventing and directly treating pathological conditions in young children, not yet adapted to the social environment. Indeed, if you do not deal with such people, then in the future they will lose the opportunity to learn, work and be useful to society.
Abilitation is a derivative word from the Latin “abilitatio” or “habilis”, which literally means “comfortable” or “adaptive”. It is also worth noting that such social and health events are carried out not only in relation to children with disabilities, but also to other people whose moral health is undermined (for example, convicts, etc.).
Are rehabilitation and habilitation the same thing?

These concepts are really very similar to each other. However, there is still a difference between them. For example, rehabilitation refers to a system of recreational and pedagogical measures that are aimed at treating and preventing deviations that lead to permanent or temporary disability. In other words, this term implies certain actions by which a person can quickly restore his ability to normal life and work in an ordinary environment. As for habilitation, it should be talked about only in those cases when the pathological condition of the patient (disability) arose at an early age. After all, a young child has not yet formed speech and Gnostic-practical functions, as well as a normal motor stereotype. In addition, he does not have experience in social life and does not have self-service skills. That is why such children are sent to a center of habilitation rather than rehabilitation, where patients come with certain knowledge about public life.
In what cases is required?
There are certain pathological factors when the question arises about the need for habilitation. Among them, it is worth highlighting lesions of the nervous system in the womb, as well as any birth injuries, in particular craniocerebral. At an early age, traumatic, inflammatory and other deviations of the central nervous system can be attributed to such factors.
As for older children, injuries of the spinal cord and brain, infectious and inflammatory diseases (consequences of transferred arachnoiditis, encephalitis, polio, meningitis) and degenerative pathologies of the neuromuscular system most often lead to such lesions.
Returning to an early age, it should be noted that among these babies the most common habits of children with cerebral palsy. It is worth noting that in our country there is a fairly well-established system of healing people with this diagnosis. As you know, it provides for phased treatment in completely different institutions, namely: in a maternity hospital, a specialized department for newborns, a clinic, a neurological and orthopedic department, specialized sanatoriums, nurseries, kindergartens, boarding schools and orphanages.
