Cortexin injections include the active ingredient cortexin and the excipient glycine (stabilizer). The drug belongs to the group of cattle cerebral polypeptides. The medication is a nootropic drug.
Cortexin injections are available in the form of a lyophysilate for the preparation of a solution intended for intramuscular injection. The lyophysilate is a powder or a porous mass of white color (a yellowish tint is possible).
Cortexin injections contain a complex of low molecular weight fractions of polypeptides that are soluble in water. They have the ability to penetrate nerve cells through the blood-brain barrier. Cortexin injections have a neuroprotective, nootropic, tissue-specific and antioxidant effect.
The nootropic effect of the drug contributes to the improvement of higher brain functions, the process of memory and learning, concentration of attention, as well as increased resistance to various stresses.
The neuroprotective effect reduces the toxic effect of psychotropic substances, provides protection of neurons from damage by various factors of endogenous neurotoxic nature.
The antioxidant effect contributes to the inhibition of lipid peroxidation in neurons, increase the survival of neurons under conditions of hypoxia and oxidative stress.
Tissue-specific action promotes the activation of neuronal metabolism of the nervous (peripheral and central) systems, reparative processes, improvement of functions in the cerebral cortex and general nervous tone.
The medication is used in the complex treatment of disorders in the blood circulation of the brain, traumatic brain injuries and their consequences, cognitive impairment (disorders of thinking and memory), encephalopathy. Indications for use include acute and chronic encephalomyelitis and encephalitis, epilepsy, decreased learning ability, asthenic conditions. The drug is also used for delays in speech and psychomotor development in children, various forms of cerebral palsy.
The drug is not used for individual intolerance. Contraindications also include the prenatal period (due to the lack of clinical trial results) and lactation. In cases where it is necessary to use the drug when breastfeeding, it is necessary to abandon feeding.
Before administration, the contents of the drug should be dissolved in 1-2 ml of a solution of novocaine 0.5% or water for injection, or a solution of sodium chloride. The dosage of the drug for an adult is 10 mg for ten days. Cortexin is administered to a child based on body weight. Up to twenty kilograms, the dosage is 0.5 mg / kg. With a body weight of more than twenty kilograms, the dosage is 10 mg for ten days. If necessary, the therapeutic course is carried out after three to six months.
If you follow the instructions for use, an overdose is not noted. In some cases, taking the drug may cause individual hypersensitivity to its components.
The interaction of the drug with other drugs is not described in practice.
The drug is prescribed by a doctor and dispensed by prescription. The use of the medication should be accompanied by medical supervision.
In some cases (depending on the symptoms), analogues are prescribed instead of Cortexin. These include "Timalin", "Epithalamin", "T-activin."
Most parents respond positively to the effect of the drug. Taking the drug significantly stimulates the physical and mental development of the child. In comparison with other drugs (for example, "Piracetam"), "Cortexin" is characterized as a milder medication.
