For crimes committed, convicts who have received their sentence are sent to institutions to serve their sentences. One of these is the fifth special regime penal colony. A bit of history
A colony was built in 1517 on granite blocks delivered by boats by the monks themselves. The thickness of the walls, which are erected directly from the water, reaches one and a half meters.
The monastery was on a special account with the great princes and Moscow tsars, who often visited it. For which he was awarded contributions and estates.
In the sixteenth century, the Kirillo-Novoezersky Monastery received three lakes, lands, and was exempted from all types of duties. But in 1919, everything changed. By order of the new government, all possessions were confiscated. The monks took personal belongings and clothes. After which they were forced to leave their monastery and scatter around the neighborhood.
From the monastery they made a prison for opponents of the revolution. Then turned into a colony for political prisoners. And after the death of Stalin, the institution became a prison for dangerous criminals. Currently, the “Vologda Penny” is intended for convicts who have committed particularly serious crimes, sentenced to life or the death penalty, replaced by a milder type of punishment due to the imposed moratorium. The procedure for admission to the institution

Prisoners

Convicts have the right to daily three meals a day, hot meals and walks. When visiting the toilet, baths, walks, etc. any contact with other convicts is excluded. Even conversations with a psychologist are held in the presence of three warders.
Any actions of the convict are carried out at the command of the colony staff and with permission. Any event takes place under the supervision of at least three employees of the institution. The cells are searched every day, as are the convicts during the withdrawal from them. Handcuffs are not removed.
The colony does not host sporting events, vocational or school education, watching movies, etc.
Meetings are allowed short-term. Personal long meetings are prohibited.
The slightest violations of the regime lead to punishment in the form of deprivation of rations or to a punishment cell.
In the colony, the majority of convicts suffer from mental illness, and some of them suffer from tuberculosis.
The work of convicts
“Vologda nickel” is a colony, within the walls of which convicts are engaged in sewing mittens, souvenir “helmets” and “budenovki”. For these purposes, special cameras have been allocated for no more than two people. Monthly convicts receive remuneration for their work, which they can spend on writing newspapers and books. Construction of a new building
The prison "Vologda Penny" in the near future will be ready to receive seventy-two more people sentenced to life. They will be located in the new fourth building, built on the site of the Church of Our Lady of Smolensk. The building will consist of three floors. The cameras are planned to be made according to European standards: more spacious, with ventilation and sewage. What is missing in the old rooms for prisoners.

On the doors of each cell in the colony "Vologda Penny" hangs a plate on which a brief description of the convict is indicated. It says: an article on which he sits, how many people killed, whether he is inclined to escape, suicide, self-mutilation, etc.
