For starters: what is a portfolio? This word in Russian is quite “young” and came to us in the educational process some one and a half to two decades ago. By and large, the so-called assembled together, in one folder, various teaching materials used in the lessons. These include all kinds of cards, tables and diagrams, illustrations for works and reproductions of paintings, lesson and calendar plans, tests and much more. Portfolio should be not only teachers, but also schoolchildren. We’ll talk about this.
Objectives and content
What should include a portfolio for elementary grades? The contents of the teacher we found out. But the student? And do kids need it at all? The main tasks of primary education, in addition to the transfer of knowledge and the formation of relevant skills, can be called disclosing the creative and other abilities of children, creating the most convenient conditions for their implementation; development of cognitive motivation for each individual student and class as a whole; the formation of positive moral qualities, needs, ideals and many others. In light of this, the conclusion suggests itself: a portfolio for elementary grades, if the teacher decides to start it, should contain materials that, on the one hand, would help children in their studies, and on the other hand, would realize the creative potential of each child and serve as an instrument of approval and encouraging his work.
Examples of possible portfolios
To make it convenient for the child to store material that will be constantly replenished, he needs to have 2 folders: one large, clerical - in it he will put at home all the necessary papers for permanent storage, and the second - oilcloth or cardboard on the ropes to carry what is needed for lessons . Since this is a portfolio for elementary grades, it is not necessary to introduce a uniform form. You can allow children to experiment with colors, appearance. But the title pages already require a single sample - the name and surname of the student, the class number and letter, the name of the educational institution.
Next, you need to insert several files into the folder - by filling sections. For example, a portfolio for
elementary grades may contain cards and other supporting material in mathematics (samples with a multiplication table, signs “more” / “less”, etc.), natural history. This folder is easy to create for any item. Punched cards in the Russian language, symbolic pictures of the rules, schemes for parsing words and sentences, some extracts from the studied works in a book to read, quotes you like - all this is not only acceptable, but also desirable for the portfolio of primary school students. A big plus will be the teacher’s advice so that the guys put in their folder their own drawings and illustrations to the most remembered fragments of literary texts, proverbs and sayings, their own compositions on a free topic. In this case, students will have a great incentive to express themselves. And finally, personal information.
It can also be placed in the portfolio of a primary school student, ready for other sections. Invite the children to look for information about their name, about those interesting events that took place in the country and in the world in the year of their birth, admission to the garden and in the 1st grade. Let them tell a little about their family, interests, hobbies, friends - such information will help them to realize themselves as individuals, and provide a lot of food for the teachers themselves to think about their wards.
Naturally, the teacher should have control over filling out the portfolio, but without undue pressure and rigor.
