What are the treatment standards in medicine?

Modern medicine allocates a huge number of diseases and pathological conditions. Unknown five to ten years ago, diseases today fall into the category of those studied thanks to improved diagnostic procedures and success in treatment. However, the stream of new, still unexplored diseases does not dry out. This condition stimulates medicine to continuous improvement.

But do not forget about the studied ailments, since their level not only does not decrease, but also has a tendency to increase. Such diseases have long passed the stage of research, and today only from time to time the methods for their diagnosis and treatment are modified. Special treatment standards are provided for these standard diseases. They are developed with the participation of leading experts in these sections of medicine, with subsequent periodic adjustment and revision.

Why are treatment standards necessary?

Firstly, they provide a high level of medical manipulations, thanks to the proven effectiveness of existing schemes. Secondly, they are strictly regulated (approved) and are controlled.

Medical treatment standards are a scheme-list of therapeutic measures, the conduct of which is mandatory in identifying this pathology. Such requirements are not presented to one particular hospital, but are common to all state clinics.

The presence of such schemes determines a high level of medical care both locally and throughout the country. This is because the doctor, having identified a certain disease, does not conduct the treatment as he sees fit (whether it is right or wrong), but performs it according to the established protocol.

Unlike Western countries, Russia today has its own federal treatment standards, which are monitored not only by the supervisory authorities of the Ministry of Health, but also by insurance services, because it is compliance with the approved regimens and protocols that confirms the correctness of treatment. In a different situation, if an insured event occurs, the correctness of the treatment and the doctor's prescriptions is called into question.

The treatment standards, as well as any changes in them, are communicated by the administration to the department heads, who, in turn, inform about changes in other doctors of their departments at planned meetings. For the use of other tactics or treatment regimens for diseases, a consultation of the council on the effectiveness of the proposed manipulations (appointments) is necessary. In the case of confirmation of the reliability of the high efficiency of the proposed schemes, they are additionally investigated and introduced into the base of treatment standards.

The introduction of standards was carried out in order to unify common treatment regimens, diagnostics and prevention of common diseases among the population. In addition, the use of such schemes made it possible to get rid of unreasonably prolonged treatment, which can be caused by both illiteracy of the doctor and insufficient experience.

As a result, after the introduction of standards in medicine, the processes of diagnosing and treating diseases were significantly accelerated, which caused a reduction in the duration of rehabilitation and an optimization of the system of preventive medicine.

Thus, treatment standards guarantee the literacy of the manipulations and appointments. The unification of treatment regimens allowed achieving an equally high level of medical manipulations regardless of the social status of the patient, as well as the location of the healthcare institution (i.e. treatment regimens in clinics are the same for residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region, as well as for residents of any other cities of the Russian Federation).
