To inform pedestrians and drivers about traffic rules, special road markings have been developed. Traffic regulations include the use of not only markings, but also traffic lights, road signs.
The markup is divided into two large groups: vertical and horizontal (section 1.26 of the SDA). Each group is characterized by certain colors, types of lines.
Horizontal marking
According to the SDA, the markings on the road can be not only in the form of lines, but also arrows, inscriptions and other images. Each type has its own meaning: it determines the order of movement of drivers and carries other information for the participants of the DD.
The horizontal layout can be permanent or temporary. The first type includes all lines of white and yellow. But the orange shade indicates the temporary marking.
Markup Types
Every driver should know the types of markup and what it means. If the markings on the road are not visible, then drivers must be guided by road signs. There are times when the markup of a temporary type and a permanent one contradict each other. In such situations, it is necessary to focus on the temporary.
Markup number | Description | Designation |
1.1 | Solid, not wide white line | Usually a narrow continuous strip separates the traffic flows, and also distinguish zones of the carriageway in hazardous areas. A narrow stripe denotes the border of parking spaces, the carriageway, to which entry is prohibited. |
1.2 | Solid | The wide lines indicate the edge of the road. This road marking allows drivers to see the border of the carriageway. |
1.3 | Solid line double line | This view is intended for dividing the carriageway with four or more lanes into traffic in different directions. |
1.4 | Solid yellow line | Solid yellow indicates places where stopping is prohibited. This kind of line can be seen with or without signs. |
1.5 | White dashed line (dashed line), in which the stroke length is twice as short as the gap length | In traffic rules, markings on this type of road are used to separate traffic with several lanes. The same marking indicates the boundaries of the bands in the presence of several bands designed to move in one direction. |
1.6 | An intermittent white line with a long dotted line is three times longer than the gap between strokes | The markup indicates an approach to 1.1 or 1.11. |
1.7 | Short strokes with the same length | Markings on the road indicate traffic at the intersection. |
1.8 | The line is dashed, wide. | Designed to highlight the boundaries between the acceleration and braking lanes, the main part of the strip |
1.9 | Intermittent double | Such markings are found where reverse movement. It also separates the flows of vehicles where reverse regulation is used, and traffic lights are turned off. |
1.10 | Yellow dashed line | Indicates the area where parking is prohibited. |
1.11 | Solid line and dotted line | It is applied to road sections with passing or opposite traffic. Reconfiguration is prohibited from the strip from which the solid line is located. |
1.12 | Stop line | It indicates the places where it is necessary to stop when the traffic lights, traffic controller or the sign 2.5 are prohibited. |
1.13 | Triangles with a gap between them | This marking on the road, according to the SDA, indicates the place where they saw they should stop, letting other vehicles pass. |
1.14.1 1.14.2 | Crosswalk or zebra | The image can be anything: white, white with two lanes of pedestrians, with alternating white and yellow lanes. At this point, pedestrians cross the road. |
1.15 | Two parallel dashed lines in the form of white squares with the same gap between them | Markings indicate the place where cyclists cross the roadway. |
1.16 | Zigzag yellow line near the sidewalk | The marking shows the stopping area of fixed-route vehicles, including taxis. |
1.17 | White arrows | The markings on the road show where the driver can move from his lane. The marking, which allows you to turn from the leftmost lane to the left, still allows you to make a U-turn. |

Road signs
In some sections of the road, drivers can see the pictured signs. For example, you can go along the roadway, and it shows a “stop”. This sign tells drivers that they are approaching the place where the sign 2.5 is.
Also on the road there may be signs like A-01 and many others. They talk about road number. But the designation of the lane with the inscription "A", which is often found in large cities, indicates the lane for route vehicles.
The image of a man indicates the pedestrian part of the road, which can be moved not only by pedestrians, but also by cyclists.
Take
A common occurrence is duplication of prohibitory, warning signs. For example, behind the village, the driver saw the sign “50” depicted on the road.
In places where the speed of movement is regulated by artificial roughness, not only signs are displayed, but also special road markings are applied in the form of white squares arranged in several rows in a checkerboard pattern.
New markup
New road markings - yellow mesh. It is applied at intersections where traffic jams often form. This image prohibits the vehicle from traveling to an intersection so as not to interfere with other traffic participants. But turns to the right or left are allowed. The yellow mesh can be used independently or in conjunction with the 1.35 sign.
Vertical marking
Vertical road markings are applied with white and black paints. Typically, these elements are found on road elements and serve to visualize the drivers.
For each type of structure, certain types of markings have been developed.
Markings 2.1.1-2.1.3 highlight elements that are dangerous to vehicles. This may be the support of bridges, the end of the parapets, etc. The markings themselves are made in the form of diagonal stripes in black and white.
Vertical stripes in white and black indicate the edge of the span. Such markings can be seen on bridges, tunnels, overpasses.
Marking 2.3 indicates round pedestals. Such elements are installed on dividing strips. Markup 2.4 denotes supports, posts, holders and other elements.
In hazardous areas markup 2.5 is used. It looks like alternating black and white stripes of the same size. This type is found on the fences of bridges and other areas of danger. On other sections of roads where there are fences, marking 2.6 is used. it looks like white-black-and-white stripes of horizontal type.
Movement features
Markings under numbers 1.22, 1.5-1.8 can be crossed in any direction. This is important to consider when studying traffic rules, since the markings on the road are always indicated on the photo, it is taken into account in tickets.
Marking 1.9 can be crossed if there are no reversing traffic lights or when they are completely turned off, but only subject to the right location from the driver. When the traffic light is on, the line can be crossed from either side. As soon as the traffic lights turn off, you must immediately change lanes to mark the reverse traffic.
Old in a new way
Not so long ago, introduced a new yellow markings on the road in the form of a grid. They prohibit exit at intersections if there is a traffic jam in front. The driver can continue to move in other directions, but not in the direction of traffic jam.
