Nonsense is about stupid ideas and insignificant acts

Finding a good conversation partner is not easy. Sometimes there are people whose communication with whom seems like a waste of time: their statements are stupid, meaningless or annoying just by intonation. I would like to immediately dismiss and say, they say, all this is nonsense! But what lies behind the capacious definition? How appropriate would it be in a conversation with strangers? Does it sound insulting to loved ones? First you need to figure out the origin.

Wood shards

There are several options for etymology, but more often than others they indicate a version of the appearance of “chep” or “chips”. We are talking about ordinary chips: thin, miniature plates that break off from the massif along the line of separation of wood fibers. Small and fragile, they are not suitable for subsequent transformation into household items, remaining garbage or going to the furnace for kindling.

Nonsense - ridiculous things

Utter stupidity

Sometimes people produce the same stuff, barely open their mouths. You can thoroughly understand what nonsense means on any bench with gossips or on the channel with conspiracy theories on the Internet:

  • rash statements;
  • unreasonable or illogical opinion;
  • fake information.

The speaker characterizes ideas and thoughts as garbage, meaningless. This implies the second acceptable interpretation:

  • a circumstance that can be ignored;
  • oddities of behavior;
  • insignificant detail;
  • unimportant matter.

The listed items may be reasonable, logically justified. But at the same time, they are so tiny throughout the entire enterprise that they will not affect the outcome. And why, then, remember about them? Similar statements can be heard when talking about things with zero value, useless.

Folk wisdom

There are less common versions of the decryption of the search word. According to Dahl, a similar noun in the Ryazan region is used along with "cowboy" to denote pipe soot. They suggest a derivation from the verb “cling”, although it is not established reliably.

Also in prison jargon is used to indicate a worthless person. So they designate a petty person, wretched in his moral qualities, untalented, strange. And therefore not deserving special attention or trust.

Nonsense - Minor Acts

Everyday communication

Speak with caution. Indeed, classical nonsense is a clear negative connotation, neglect of what has been said or done. With one such statement, you seem to level out all the mental or physical work of the interlocutor, belittle its value. The word is not swearing, but very rude and offensive, it will easily become a cause for conflict. Sometimes it’s better to restrain emotions, even if someone’s actions look empty!
