Donetsk region is a rather large and significant region for the country. Industry is developed here. In total, the region has 52 settlements that have the status of a city. After the armed conflict, this region has undergone changes. Since 2014, some cities in the Donetsk region are not subordinate to the Ukrainian government. This is the center of the region - Donetsk, Gorlovka, Yasinovataya, etc. Now this region can hardly be called full-fledged. Some of these settlements were of strategic importance to the country. In some, coal was mined, the other (Yasinovataya) - the main railway junction. However, in the region there are also those cities of the Donetsk region that are controlled by Ukraine. Let's look at some of them.
City Konstantinovka, Donetsk region
Konstantinovka is a Ukrainian city located in the Donetsk region. It is located on the river Krivoy Torets. The history of Konstantinovka began in 1812, the landowner Nomikosov founded the village of Santurinovka on the site of his estate. At that time, only about twenty families lived here. By the middle of the XIX century, a full-fledged village was formed, named by Konstantinovka by the name of the owner. Soon, a railway station opened near the village . Thanks to this, the city of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk region began to gradually turn into an industrial center. In 1895โ1897, glass and chemical plants were built, and metallurgical and bottle production began. A few years later, a plant for the production of mirrors and mirror glass was built. Along with the growth of industry, the village itself grew and developed. The village continued to grow during the Soviet period. In Konstantinovka more than twenty industrial facilities were built.
Nowadays, the population of Konstantinovka totals seventy-five thousand people. The city has a railway junction, a glass industry is developed.
City Artemovsk, Donetsk region
The city of Artemovsk is located in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. It is located on the banks of the Bakhmut River. The climate in these places is temperate, as in the Donetsk region as a whole: summers are rather arid, winters are not too cold. The city was founded in 1571 as a border outpost. Toward the end of the 19th century, glass, alabaster, brick and some other factories were operating here. In the middle of the 20th century, a champagne wine factory and a non-ferrous metallurgy plant began to operate here. In 1924, the city changed its name: in honor of one of the statesmen of that time, Bakhmut was renamed Artyomovsk (Donetsk region).
In 2015, the city was returned to its former name - Bakhmut. Today, Bakhmut is an industrial city with a population of almost eighty thousand people. Rock salt is mined in the city, building materials and equipment are produced. It has developed medicine, education and culture: there are hospitals, schools, libraries, cultural centers and clubs, an Orthodox church of the 18th century has been preserved and is operating.
City Krasnoarmeysk, Donetsk region
The Ukrainian city of Krasnoarmeysk was founded in 1875 as a railway junction. By 1884, the building of the station and depot were built, the first trains passed through the Grishino station (the former name of Krasnoarmeysk). The station gradually developed, attracted new immigrants. After some time, coal mines were opened here.
In Soviet times, Grishino continued to develop. In 1938, he was given the status of a city, then it was renamed Krasnoarmeysk. Until the end of the 20th century, it was actively developing. It was the construction of housing, industrial and cultural facilities.
Now the city of Krasnoarmeysk, Donetsk region, is inhabited by a little over sixty thousand people. The economy of the city rests mainly on the coal industry. In Krasnoarmeysk there are also machine-building plants, a dairy and a meat factory. The city has a pedagogical school, a sports complex, libraries, cultural palaces, hospitals and clinics.
City Dzerzhinsk, Donetsk region
Dzerzhinsk is a Ukrainian mining town with a population of almost thirty-five thousand people. The history of the city begins with the relocation of part of the inhabitants from the Zaitsevo settlement to the Shcherbinovsky farm in 1800. After several decades, local farms came together and became known as the village of Shcherbinovka. From that moment, coal mining began to develop here, a coke plant was built, new mines were opened. Thanks to this, the city of Dzerzhinsk, Donetsk region, has become an industrial center. In Soviet times, coal mining grew. In 1938, Shcherbinovka was renamed Dzerzhinsk and assigned the status of a city. In 2015, the city was once again renamed, now in Toretsk.
Now the main source of income for the city, as before, remains the coal industry. A phenolic plant also operates, and engineering is developed. In general, culture and healthcare are at a decent level and provide for the needs of citizens.
Kramatorsk city, Donetsk region
Kramatorsk is a large Ukrainian city with a population of 160,000 thousand people. The city and nearby villages are located in the valley of the Kazeny Torets river. Summer is hot and dry, and winter is relatively cold.
The history of the city begins in 1868, when the Kramatorskaya junction appeared on the railway under construction in these places. Soon, the first factories started operating here: engineering, then cement. Schools began to be built and residential buildings built.
In the days of the USSR, the village began to develop rapidly and acquired the status of a city. New factories, hospitals, schools are being built, the city is being improved. The main emphasis of the economy is on engineering. However, this is not surprising, since the cities of the Donetsk region are, first of all, industrial centers.
Nowadays Kramatorsk is one of the most important cities in Ukraine. Now there are two machine-building plants, a heavy machine-tool plant , two metallurgical plants, as well as many enterprises of light and food industries.
City Mariupol, Donetsk region
A large commercial sea port located on the shores of the Sea of โโAzov is called Mariupol. It is the second most populous in comparison with all the cities of Donetsk Oblast. Summer in these places is long and hot, winter is short and mild. The average annual temperature is 10.5 ยฐ C.
Mariupol was founded in 1778. Thanks to the construction of railways in 1882, the city began to develop at an accelerated pace: the road connected the seaport with the most important industrial centers of the country, which contributed to a significant increase in cargo turnover. By the end of the 19th century, Mariupol acquired the status of an important industrial and commercial center of the south of the Russian Empire. Numerous factories are being built here, mechanical engineering is developing.
Now Mariupol is a significant engineering and metallurgical center of Ukraine. The city has three own universities and several non-resident branches, as well as medical, metallurgical, music and other schools. Here is the oldest drama theater in the Donetsk region. Urban beaches are popular with locals and tourists: the sea is very warm and not too deep.
