Surely everyone has heard of such a beautiful country like Croatia. It is located in the south of Central Europe. The total population is just over 4 million people. Here are the famous resort towns of Croatia, which are visited annually by a lot of tourists. This country is distinguished by picturesque places and no less beautiful cities with a rich culture. It is she who helps to see all the charm of this territory. Of course, the presence of the coast plays a significant role in the development of the country.
In this article, an excursion to some famous settlements will be carried out, that is, important cities of Croatia are described. These are Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Dubrovnik, Pula and Makarska. Many of them are large economic and industrial areas.
Zagreb
The capital of Croatia is Zagreb. It is a city with a rich history and culture. It has accumulated over more than 900 years. The city of Zagreb arose in 1094. And during this period the very first mention of this village appeared. Then the king of Hungary established his authority on the Kaptol hill. There were two populated areas called Kaptol and Hradec. Now they are part of Zagreb.
The climate of the city is usually continental. The average temperature in summer does not exceed 23 ° C, and in winter does not fall below the 0 ° C mark. However, the hottest month is May. Autumn, as in all countries with a continental climate, is rainy. Winter is characterized by snowfall.
In Zagreb, there are many amazing sights: Lothrščak Tower, Ban Josip Jelacic Square and King Tomislav. The latter is the largest district of Zagreb. An interesting scientific monument dedicated to the solar system will also seem interesting. The attraction is located more than 7 km. And these are just some of the places that really deserve attention.
Split
Next in line is Split. The city is located on the Adriatic coast. If Zagreb is the largest in Croatia, then the described settlement in this regard takes an honorable 2nd place. Split is a resort. It is located between cities such as Dubrovnik and Zadar. There was an interesting moment in its history: once Split was the capital of one of the colonies of the Roman province - Salon.
The city center is of historical value. This area has become the property of UNESCO. The main attraction of Split is the Diocletian's Palace. This building dates back to 305 BC. e. The area of this building is approximately 3 hectares. Split is the city where the popular series Game of Thrones was filmed.
Rijeka
Two cities have already been considered, the third in line. It's about Rijeka. It is a port in Croatia. Takes 3rd place in the country by area. Rijeka is one of the few major cities in the country where most Croats live. It is located in the Gulf of Rijek, where the river of the same name flows. The latter, in turn, is part of the Kvarner Bay of the Adriatic Sea. Therefore, the name of the city literally translates as "river".
People in this area have lived for a long time, since the settlements found here belong to the Neolithic (New Stone Age). The city of Rijeka has plenty of interesting architecture, but the settlement itself is considered to be a landmark. You can highlight such monuments as the Croatian National Theater named after Ivan Zayts and the Modelo Palace.
Dubrovnik
Everyone has heard of such a magnificent resort like Dubrovnik. He is the dream of any tourist. A city with a small population (just over 42 thousand people), but with a huge influx of tourists every day. Dubrovnik is surrounded by a fortress and stands on the edge of a cliff, it is also a UNESCO heritage. Its occurrence was recorded in the 7th century. A distinctive feature of this city of Croatia is the Old District. Red-tiled houses are also a symbol of Dubrovnik. The old city is a model of the Middle Ages and life in this period. Dubrovnik is just full of attractions. These include Stradun, Princely Palace, Pile Gate, Lodge Square, City Harbor - the creation of human hands, intertwined with nature, and much more.
Pula
The next city with an interesting name is Pula. Located on the peninsula of Istria, which is located in the Adriatic Sea. Unlike Rijeka, the inhabitants of Pula are multinational. Historically, this settlement was of very strategic importance, its founders were Greeks. Various sights testify to the majesty of this city. The most famous architectural monument of Pula is the ancient Roman amphitheater. And this is not surprising, since the heyday of the city fell precisely during the reign of the Roman Empire. At the moment, this building is used for various concerts and exhibitions. The second most popular attraction in Pula is the Kastel fortress, which is located on the top of the hill.
Makarska
Describing the cities of Croatia, it is worth saying about the village of Makarska. It is also a fairly popular resort. Makarska is located in the central part of the Adriatic coast between the cities of Dubrovnik and Split. Judging by the history, this settlement is different from the rest of the cities of Croatia, as it was inhabited by Slavs - Neretvans. They are named after the river located in this city - Neretva. As in Dubrovnik, there is an old part of the city with its attractions. This is a Franciscan monastery and the church of St. Petra.
