Interesting Facts
Director Sergei Mikaelyan took up work on this film, one might say, by chance. Several of his paintings, created in the seventies, "lay on the shelf." Having decided to create a film with a straightforward plot that would not provoke nit-picking from officials and would not be called “anti-Soviet,” Mikaelian sat down for a new script. Its co-author was Alexander Vasinsky.
The creative process did not work out at first. Mikaelian asked for help from a friend, the famous film playwright Victor Merezhko. Despite the busyness, the writer devoted several days to the script for the future film, but he turned out to be completely off the proposal to include his name in the credits.
Even venerable actors usually agree to audition. The director approved Evgeny Glushenko immediately, without trial, despite the fact that she was little like a heroine. Vera, according to the script, was a thin girl with a long nose. The actress proposed to go from the opposite: the heroine of the film, in order to become more attractive, is trying to lose weight.
It was necessary to make changes to the script also because of the leading actor. Initially, Mikaelian wanted to shoot Stanislav Lyubshin. But the actor’s plans have changed. After a long fruitless search, the director decided to invite Yankovsky. However, according to the original version of the plot, Igor was over twenty. The script was rewritten, the protagonist "made older." The film received several prestigious awards. Yankovsky, according to a survey by the magazine "Soviet Screen", was named the best actor of the year.
