Sugar depilation is better known as shugaring ( bandage or manual technique ). This is a completely natural hair removal method that can be done at home with just three simple ingredients: sugar, lemon juice and water. Like regular depilation, shugaring lasts slightly longer than shaving, but has some advantages over the wax method:
- Sugar easily and quickly dissolves in water, which is very good for sensitive skin.
- Sugar depilation techniques are also considered more hygienic.
Preparing for Shugaring: what is needed?
To prepare the skin for depilation, you need a scrub lotion to clean and degrease the skin, as well as fragrance-free talc. For the depilation itself, you need sugar paste, gloves, paper strips, a spatula. After the procedure, it is recommended to cleanse the skin with thermal water, then apply a soothing and moisturizing lotion or cream.
Shugaring Techniques
There are several methods for conducting such a procedure as shugaring: bandage technique (using depilation strips) and manual (performed manually, without the use of additional devices). Depending on the technology, pastes of different densities are selected. For bandage technique, soft paste is used, for manual - dense paste. The paste can be heated or kneaded by hand, and then applied to the desired area against the direction of hair growth, and removed by height.
The bandage
shugaring technique
at home or in the salon is as follows: after applying the sugar mass, special strips are applied, they are pressed tightly, and then they are removed with a sharp movement. During the manual technique, spread the paste over the surface with three fingers and also quickly remove it. The advantage of the manual technique is its more economical use, since one lump of paste can remove hair from a sufficiently large surface of the body. This procedure can be provided by a professional, or you can do it yourself, but this requires some skill. Not everyone succeeds in removing hair the first time.
Shugaring: bandage technique
The big advantage of the shugaring bandage technique over other methods of hair removal is the absence of strong pain during the procedure. Over time, it becomes less ingrown hair. After the procedure, the skin is soft and smooth. There are no red spots or signs of irritation. Such a brilliant result lasts for a long time, usually 3-4 weeks.
Start of procedure
1. Before depilation, the skin must be cleaned and degreased. To do this, use a special lotion, for example with mint and birch extract. Birch extract has a disinfecting effect and prevents inflammation. The lotion can be sprayed onto the skin with a spray bottle and evenly distributed throughout the body with your hands. Blot off excess lotion with a paper towel.
2. Cleaned and dried skin should be treated with talcum powder. It is better to choose a powder without unnecessary additives and fragrances, it is advisable not to use baby talcum powder, as aromas and soothing agents are often added there. With it, the skin will not be sticky, and the hair will cling to the paste better and stronger.
3. The choice of sugar mixture for shugaring depends on several factors. A professional always has in stock several jars of pasta of different density and consistency, the choice of which depends on the temperature of the air, hands and body. The warmer they are, the more thick the mixture should be selected, and not vice versa. Shugaring (bandage technique) involves the use of soft paste and special strips.
How to do shugaring? Manual way
Banding and manual technique of shugaring is insignificant, but they differ from each other. The manual method involves the use of a paste of good density, which is applied manually. Pre-warmed up to forty degrees, the mass (while it becomes viscous, like honey) is applied with your fingers to the surface against hair growth. The mixture is evenly distributed and remains for several seconds for better fixation. Then you need to carefully unscrew the edge of the slightly cooled paste and sharply tear off in the direction of hair growth.
How to do shugaring: bandage technique
The bandage shugaring technique (photo below) is carried out using additional tools and devices: you will need a cosmetic spatula and paper or fabric dressings for depilation. This method involves the use of soft paste, which is heated to forty-five degrees. The mixture is applied to the body with a spatula, after which a tape or bandage is applied, which after a couple of seconds is removed along with the unwanted hairs.
Sweet hair removal
Sugar hair removal is a procedure for removing hair on a personโs skin by treating them with sugar paste and further radical removal along with the hair. What is shugaring (bandage technique) at home? Sugar paste can be prepared independently from improvised materials: water, sugar and lemon juice, or you can buy a ready-made version and not waste time cooking. The paste is applied to the skin surface with unwanted hairs, special strips are firmly glued on top, pressed firmly, and then removed with a sharp movement. The remaining mixture can be washed off with warm water.
The ancient art of sugar depilation
Shugaring is probably the oldest way to remove hair, although its use is not as widespread as, for example, waxing. This procedure is also called sugar depilation or Persian waxing. This method of hair removal was used by the ancient Egyptian queen Nefertiti. Only instead of sugar did she use bee honey. Shugaring is often compared to standard depilation.
Sugar itself is hypoallergenic, however, if you have sensitive skin, shugaring can cause slight irritation. There are some differences between household and professional use of sugar paste. Most store-bought foods contain wax, while home-made mixtures include sugar and natural ingredients.
