A threat is a possible danger. As you know, among people this concept is quite common: someone threatens a person on the Internet, personally, in a letter, etc. Is there any punishment for threatening life? Most people mistakenly assume that they will not suffer responsibility for the intention to cause physical as well as material harm to another person. Meaning of the word “threat”

Threat to the health and life of an individual
There is an article in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation that explains in detail what can be considered a threat and what punishment a person who threatened the life and health of another person must be punished. Article 119 says that a threat to life can be expressed in various forms:
• Orally.
• In writing.
• Weapon threat.
• Threat by gestures.
A threat is an intention to kill or harm another person’s health. This act is a crime.
There are several conditions under which a threat will need to be punished:
• The reality of the threat. This means that the victim must have every reason to bring the accused to court. That is, the first must have reason to fear the threat. For example, if the threatening person had objects that were used as weapons (knife, ax, etc.).
• The threat contains promises and intentions that threaten to cause serious harm to the person and her health.
It should be noted that threats may not be voiced if the actions of the accused did not leave doubts about his intentions. For example, if the threatening person does not utter a word, but directs the barrel of a firearm at the victim. Such actions are called criminal, and the accused must be punished for them.
Punishment for threat
A threat is a criminal act punishable by:
• Mandatory community service for up to 480 hours.
• Limitation of freedom for up to 2 years.
• Imprisonment for up to 2 years.
• Forced labor for up to 2 years.
• Arrest for up to 6 months.
If the intention to kill or harm another person meets the conditions under which it will be called a threat, one of the penalties listed above will be provided.
If this act was committed by a member of an organized group, then punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to five years is provided.
The threat as mental abuse
A threat is mental abuse of another person. During the commission of this act, the victim experiences fear due to the fact that he is deprived of peace and is constantly in danger. As a result of this, a person cannot work and live normally, because he is in constant fear.
The threat is considered completed immediately after it was brought to the attention of the victim.
It should be noted that the threat to life resembles an attempted murder, however, these acts differ in purpose. The intention to cause physical harm to health can be interpreted as a desire to scare the victim. While the attempted murder has the goal of taking the person’s life.

It must be remembered that the offender must be punished for threats. This act is considered psychological abuse of personality.
