Summer Polyglot. Study abroad.

Most students come to summer language schools in the UK. It’s not only that half the world speaks English: it was the British who were the first to introduce the language plus program. So that children not only learn, but also improve in their favorite hobby, whether it be painting, swimming, horse riding, dancing or acting. Rugby School, for example, offers additional activities in rugby and media design, and Harrow School in tennis and golf.

Learning foreign languages and education abroad It has obvious advantages, since your child will be among foreigners and language training will take place outside the classroom.

Learning a language is cheaper in the provinces: prices in capitals or university cities like Oxford and Cambridge are 10-15% higher.

The child can be settled either in the family or in the school dormitory. Children under 10 years old will probably have a better home-like atmosphere. Teens, on the other hand, would rather live on campus and would be more willing to obey the rules that their school mentors would dictate to them, rather than “temporary parents.”

On the other hand, “temporary parents” may be an alternative to the whole school. In Europe, you can find Russian-speaking teachers practicing private lessons at home, while offering a full board and a cultural program. Payment is either hourly (the usual rate is about 50 euros per hour) or by a lump-sum payment (roughly speaking, for everything at once), which is preferable. A good private teacher will never say from the doorway that his schedule is constant and not subject to change. In addition, classes can take place not "at the desk", but in a museum, park or on excursions. The price tag remains unchanged.

Training rules

At school, the first thing the children are offered is a test, according to which they are divided into several groups, depending on the level of training. Most institutions have a limit on the number of compatriot students in the group. Moreover, representatives of different nationalities are surely lodged in the room - as a rule, no more than four people. They should seek help from staff exclusively in the language that they came to learn. This is done in order to save the child from the temptation to communicate in his native language, so that he is more fully immersed in the language environment.

The intensity of the training load varies, but, as a rule, does not exceed 22-25 academic hours per week. For an additional fee, you can hire one of the full-time teachers as an individual tutor.

Typical entertainment - sports, intellectual games, discos, movie shows, theme nights, barbecue, field trips. In the summer camp of the International Language Academy of Canada in Toronto, students are invited to a medieval jousting tournament, taken to Niagara Falls, and Atoll Juniors French schools turn into a real cabaret with fiery music and dance for one evening.

The price indicated on the official websites of schools or intermediary companies usually includes a standard training package along with study materials, accommodation, three meals a day, an entertainment program and excursions. In addition, you need to pay for air tickets, visa fees, transfers, registration fees and medical insurance. Of course, you will have to overpay for the services of an intermediary agency - an average of 7500-12000 rubles. However, if the parents themselves do not speak foreign languages at a decent level, then negotiations with the school are best left to professionals.
