Among the Central Asian states, Dushanbe is a relatively young city. At the beginning of the last century in the territory of the modern capital of Tajikistan there were only a few nondescript villages. The largest of them was called Dushanbe, which means Monday. They called it the first day of the week only because on this day of the week a bazaar was gathering in this place. In place of these several villages, the city of Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, grew up.
History of the city
Officially, this city was approved in 1925. But only a year later, the first enterprises appeared here and new buildings began to be built. Kishlaks very soon “disappeared” among the architecture of Dushanbe. In 1939, the city already had 83 thousand inhabitants, and in the second half of the 20th century the population increased to 335 thousand.
Dushanbe - the capital of science, culture and industry
This metropolis is an important industrial, scientific and cultural center of Tajikistan. At a level with the development of industry, science and education in the capital have made great progress. Today, the Academy of Sciences brings together many research laboratories and institutions. Local scientists work in the fields of economics, zoology, literature, chemistry and many others. The Institute of Seismology is developing ways to build buildings that can withstand fairly strong earthquakes.
Dushanbe is the cultural capital. Here are the Opera and Ballet Theater, Drama Theater , as well as dozens of museums.
The climate of the metropolis
The climate of the capital is subtropical inland, which is somewhat mitigated by the mountainous location of the city. Summer is hot, long and arid enough, and winter is mild and humid. The average temperature in January is -1 , in July - +28 . In Dushanbe, two seasons are pronounced: dry (from June to October) and wet (from May to December). In high mountains, the temperature can drop to -27 o C.
The city is constantly surrounded by light breezes. During the day, the wind blows to the mountains, and at night and evening - from the mountains. In this regard, even in the hottest summer days, when the earth heats up to 60-70 ° C, after sunset the coolness prevails here.
City architecture
The city of Dushanbe was originally built on a flat and high terrace of the Varzob River. A little later, the boundaries of the city moved south and southwest. In the capital, almost all houses are single-story. Two- and four-story buildings can mainly be found in the city center. In the architectural appearance of Dushanbe, different styles are visible, but most of the houses were built in the post-war period and decorated with columns, arches, statues and other decor.
Parks and squares
Dushanbe is the capital of picturesque squares and parks. In the very center of the city there is a large park fragrant with greenery. Numerous lawns abound in many beautiful colors. Here is a unique zoo where birds and animals from all over the world are represented.
The capital of Tajikistan continues to grow and develop today. Each year, authorities increase investments in the city’s infrastructure, as well as the development of services and hotels. Well, now, if you are asked: “Is Dushanbe the capital of which country?”, You can proudly and confidently answer that it is the main city of sunny and amazingly beautiful Tajikistan.
