The fantastic action movie directed by M. Knight Shyamalan "After the Common Era" (actors: W. Smith, D. Smith, S. Okonedo, Z. Kravitz, G. Morshauer, K. Hiviju) is amazing in its scope.
Attempt to rehabilitate
Indian director M. Night Shyamalan knows well what a triumph is: in 1999, his “Sixth Sense” exploded the tabloids of popularity. After that, the maestro created three more successful projects that were united by his purely authorial style - sharp psychologism against the background of a leisurely narration, slightly seasoned with mysticism. After this, luck left the director - three of his paintings were a failure. Therefore, the film "After our era" (the actors realized the position of the director, agreeing to participate in the filming) was the last attempt for the director to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of film critics and viewers. In this work, only slowness is recognizable from stylistics, there is a small fraction of psychologism, but there is no mysticism.
Smith family home video
It seems that Shyamalan set himself the only one task - to show the audience the process of growing up, turning the boy into a man. The film "After our era" is popularly described as a movie with Will Smith and his son Jaden about Will Smith and his son Jaden. Although critics have noted the similarity of the structure of the picture with the film "The Last Inch," shot by James Aldridge.
$ 130,000,000
The budget of the film strikes with its magnitude - $ 130 million. This is taking into account the fact that, apart from individual episodes in the beginning and the final, only two actors were involved in the film "After our era." The leading actors, the Smith family, devastated the film’s budget by asking for serious fees. There are no other assumptions, because the fantastic action movie was shot on Sony F65 - a standard digital camera. But with all the outward simplicity, the picture was quite instructive.
Plot
After a global cataclysm, mankind leaves a ravaged planet. But one day, a spacecraft crashes on its surface. Only two survive - a seasoned undaunted general who has both legs broken and his teenage son. It is he who, under his father’s remote control, will have to overcome a hundred kilometers along the terrain of various-sized predators, to get to the torn tail of the aircraft. The fact is that the transmitter remained there, with the help of this device the boy will be able to send a distress signal if he is not disturbed by the monster that was transported by the spaceship.
Touching duet of father and son
Will Smith became famous as a hero of action films with decent comic talent, but this time he appears before the viewer in the guise of a very serious dramatic character who performs the GPS function. The main burden falls on the still not strong shoulders of his son Smith, Jr. Jaden Smith demonstrates excellent physical shape, but his acting skills limp, he is replaying, or underexposing. His character seems emotionally unstable. But it’s not annoying, as in the movie “Karate Boy”. Nevertheless, their family duet was named one of the most touching in the history of the world film industry. The acting skills of Smith Sr. do not cause any complaints.
Summary
The film "After our era" is distinguished by the fact that the scriptwriter M. Night Shyamalan surprised the viewer with the absence of an unexpected climax. However, the script of the film caused a lot of criticism. However, a weak scenario has recently been considered the sad scourge of modern film industry projects. If we discard all the sci-fi terms uttered by Will's hero, such as “extensions of the mass fraction of gravitons”, then the dialogs between the main characters are more similar to the lessons of life, will be similar to motivational seminars.
Of course, the aging M. Night Shyamalan at times demonstrates excessive sentimentality, but in general the plot narrative will keep the beholder in suspense from the beginning to the witty climax stored up for the final part of the movie “After our era.” Actors call the director’s move an ingenious story twist. So if the viewer is not allergic to Will Smith and his son, then you can safely recommend the film for viewing.
