Lev Shcheglov was born in 1946 in a family of people who found themselves in the professional field of applied and practical knowledge - among the figures of accounting and in the management of the department at the car repair plant.
Not feeling in himself a call to mathematical and other exact sciences, the future famous sexologist chose a philosophical faculty after school, experiencing an interest in studying the "love of wisdom."
The expanded family council (with the participation of numerous brothers and sisters of parents) did not approve of this direction not because of disrespect or neglect of science about the meaning and nature of all things, but from practical considerations dictated by time - the young man was to study not great ideas about global and high, but multivolume works of Marxist-Leninist philosophy.
Due to this, redirected to medicine, he underwent a full course of study in the specialty of "medical business" at the Leningrad Sanitary and Hygienic Medical Institute (now the St. Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I. Mechnikov).
Having received a diploma, he went into psychotherapy, not imagining himself as a healer of the body, but having a long-standing interest in the nature of the human person. He mastered the narrower specialized areas of medical knowledge: sexology, medical psychology, sexopathology.
In his memoirs, he calls the brightest moments the first impressions of visits to a psychiatric hospital, which made the still very young Lev Shcheglov think more deeply about the fragility of the line between mental norm and insanity.
Misha is a talented and vivid poet, a patient with schizophrenia at the same time, a patient in a psychiatric clinic with ten years of experience, not able to adequately answer simple everyday questions. This man was remembered by the future scientist forever.
The memory of him found a place in Lev Shcheglov’s book, Notes of a Sexologist, dated 2009. Namely, in the first chapter "Why sexology" of the first part "Profession: sexologist".
