Lev Shcheglov - the first sexologist to open a psychotherapy room in Soviet Leningrad

Lev Moiseevich Shcheglov - the first sexologist to open an office in Leningrad. At present, he is a leading specialist in his field, has more than forty years of practical experience. He has many scientific degrees and titles, is a laureate of awards and winner of awards, a professional of the highest category, recognized not only in Russia and the CIS, but also internationally. Born, raised, studied, married, raised a son, worked and still practices in St. Petersburg.

Coming to the profession

Lev Shcheglov was born in 1946 in a family of people who found themselves in the professional field of applied and practical knowledge - among the figures of accounting and in the management of the department at the car repair plant.

Not feeling in himself a call to mathematical and other exact sciences, the future famous sexologist chose a philosophical faculty after school, experiencing an interest in studying the "love of wisdom."

The expanded family council (with the participation of numerous brothers and sisters of parents) did not approve of this direction not because of disrespect or neglect of science about the meaning and nature of all things, but from practical considerations dictated by time - the young man was to study not great ideas about global and high, but multivolume works of Marxist-Leninist philosophy.

Due to this, redirected to medicine, he underwent a full course of study in the specialty of "medical business" at the Leningrad Sanitary and Hygienic Medical Institute (now the St. Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I. Mechnikov).

Having received a diploma, he went into psychotherapy, not imagining himself as a healer of the body, but having a long-standing interest in the nature of the human person. He mastered the narrower specialized areas of medical knowledge: sexology, medical psychology, sexopathology.

Lev Moiseevich Scheglov

In his memoirs, he calls the brightest moments the first impressions of visits to a psychiatric hospital, which made the still very young Lev Shcheglov think more deeply about the fragility of the line between mental norm and insanity.

Misha is a talented and vivid poet, a patient with schizophrenia at the same time, a patient in a psychiatric clinic with ten years of experience, not able to adequately answer simple everyday questions. This man was remembered by the future scientist forever.

The memory of him found a place in Lev Shcheglov’s book, Notes of a Sexologist, dated 2009. Namely, in the first chapter "Why sexology" of the first part "Profession: sexologist".

The second shock of the same time, described in the same part and chapter of the book, which drew the attention of a novice therapist to problems of the sexual sphere, was the observation of open, constant constant masturbation of the vast majority of patients of the clinic (regardless of gender and age).

Statements about the main

Friendly family

About marriage:

A modern person needs to be at least minimally psychologically literate, be able to answer the question of what I expect from marriage - not from falling in love! Marriage is not only emotional aspiration. This inclusion of reason is necessary. Raising children, maintaining a good climate in the family is a rational sphere. You need to know what you expect from marriage, see how much he (she) meets your expectations, and be interested in what your partner is waiting for. If these questions are answered honestly and with understanding, the chances of saving the family are much greater.

On the destructive influence of stereotypes and standards imposed on society by television:

Our society is captivated by the erroneous stereotypes that television imposes. According to the television version of the social structure, only a “glossy person” can be successful and recognized - young, without physical disabilities, not burdened by children. ... People are much like they feel. And if a person feels that he is a loser and unhappy, then he will become so in the near future. It turns out that by enforcing the image of an elderly person as a person who lost his life, doomed to fade away, television morally kills a huge number of citizens of the country who have reached adulthood.

About the features of Russian sexuality:

Russian sexuality has its own specifics - by virtue of the historical path traveled. Its roots are in myths, fairy tales, epics. Neither the German, nor the Spaniard, nor the Italian can understand the saying “Beats - means loves”: beats means the enemy. “Beats - means loves” is a French expression (Caricature of Jean Granville from Les centproverbes: “Qui aime bien châtie bien” (Beats means loves.)) And how does one understand a foreigner “is afraid means respect”? Afraid - then hates! And bath stories with whipping by a broom - why is it a pleasure when you torture yourself? And why in Russia babies were swaddled tightly - to deprive motor independence?

About the Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg:

It is not necessary to be a sexologist or psychologist to see that this dream, which is so stubbornly upheld by Gazprom’s leadership, has underlying psychological and sexual problems. Problems must be solved by a specialist, and not by a phallic overhang over the beautiful. This dream of a certain person with deep sexual problems, being realized, will not help to solve these problems and complexes, but it will humiliate all those who are dear to Petersburg, and it will destroy it, Petersburg.

& quot; Lakhta Center & quot; - phallic symbol

About V.V. Putin:

I think that the deafening effect that he achieved upon coming to power, that absolutely stunning love and those fantastic figures supporting him - all this is connected not only with what came from him consciously or unconsciously, but also with the fact that he the personality was very contrasted with its predecessors. To the series of mummies of the Politburo. To a series of infinitely sick people. To Boris Yeltsin, a hero like Ilya Muromets, but at the same time associated with alcohol and uncontrollability.

And here comes a completely “non-Russian type”: lowness, accuracy, sobriety, restraint, lack of bad habits, playing sports - all this is a “non-Russian story” that reminded me of an old joke when everything is in shit, and if one of them walks in a shirt-front , it gives the impression of not just whiteness, but snow-white! This is a work in contrast.

Such is the human and professional opinion of a leading Russian sexologist and psychoanalyst about the important and exciting in the actual surrounding reality.
