In botany, as well as in applied art, the term "floristry" is used. In this publication we will consider what floristry and its types are.

This term comes from the Latin word flora, which in botany denotes the plant world. Also, this term is also called "floral design" (derived from the English words floral design). Below we will define what floristry is.
Floristics is a type of decorative and applied art consisting in the creation of floral creative works from various natural materials. They can be live, dry or canned.
In botany, the term means something else, but is also associated with plants. Floristics is one of the branches of botany that studies the totality of plants in a certain territory.
We examined what floristry is. For beginners, this is, as a rule, the creation of simple compositions and bouquets. The main rule that should be remembered for beginners - more does not mean better.
Directions
Floristic trends were constantly changing: the old ones were replaced by new ones, and then again returned to the old ones. Currently, these directions are mixed, the borders between them are disappearing. But even combining several styles in the work, it is important to know the main ones for the correct combination of elements. This topic is controversial in floristry. There are three main areas:
- form-linear;
- decorative;
- vegetative.
The last two were singled out by Gregor Lersh, and added by Daniel Ost. Peter Asmann, in addition to the above styles, singled out another - parallel. Later it was transferred to the category of plant line arrangement. The Latvian floristic school named six areas: along with decorative and vegetative styles, decorative in form, linearly formal, form style and transparent style are also indicated.
A special area of this art is creative floristry. What is creative floristry? It is characterized by the originality of the form, as well as the sophistication and originality of the authors.
Types of jobs
Various works can be performed from plants, the main ones are listed below:
- composition in a vessel;
- bouquet;
- the bouquet is dry;
- floral wreath;
- panels, collages, screens;
- fairy lights;
- floristic object;
- body decoration.
To do the work, each florist must have a certain set of tools. It should have special foam, pins, tape, wire, wire cutters, as well as pruners and clippers (must be sharp).
Floristic Techniques
Quite a few techniques are highlighted in floristry. What is a technique? This is a set of techniques that are used in any skill. In floral design they are divided into three groups:
- Primary and secondary techniques (basic): arrangement, landing, sticking, working with wire, fastening, working with glue, binding, hanging and others.
- Decorative: layering, stringing, twisting, wrapping, curling, splitting, weaving, weaving and others.
- Protective (preserving): isolation, taping (allows to extend the life of the cut plant), waxing, protection against evaporation, protection against moisture and others.
Floristry and floral design
In simple terms, what is floristry, it should be said that this is a form of art, where the artist uses leaves, herbs, petals instead of colors. It also expresses a person’s feelings, his creative impulse and imagination.
Floristic work can be a worthy decoration of any interior. Most often these are floral bouquets. Flowers have long been used to decorate housing. Thus, floristry, using the properties of plants, also exists for many centuries. Therefore, the concepts of floristry and floral design are partially interconnected, but there are also differences. Floral design involves creating flower arrangements in a vase, basket. This is done for the purpose of sale. Floristics is a more generalized concept, works in this art form are performed not only from flowers.
But if you still decide to perform a flower arrangement, then you should pay attention to the combination of these plants in color and size.
There are four ways to combine plant colors: a combination of similar flowers, contrasting colors, from a different color wheel, a combination of shades of the same color. When composing a bouquet, it is important to pay attention to the size and shape of the plants and correctly assemble them.
The composition is made starting from tall plants and gradually adding lower ones. Supplement the bouquet should be evenly so that it looks beautiful. And, of course, it’s important to “turn on” the fantasy and create unique floral arrangements.
So, in the article we examined what floristry is. It should be said that its importance for people increases over time. This type of art plays a particularly important role in the development of creative abilities and finger motility in children. Little dreamers have a desire to create, a sensitive and attentive attitude to the surrounding nature develops, they are imbued with love for the beautiful.
