The distant culture of the East is similar to hardly tangible matter, which can only be seen in the natural environment, always worried the creative minds of contemporary filmmakers. The mass of vain attempts by Western filmmakers to recreate this mysterious world, in the form of expensive and not very projects, were choked by their own initiative. The senseless copying of the exotic of the eastern film industry, the attempts to invent their own philosophy invariably turned into medium-sized action films with local flavor.
"Revenge of the Ninja", "American Ninja", "Ninja Dragons" - many such products were produced at one time, but due to their mediocrity, Hollywood soon left the original culture to the East. Only in computer and online games, such as Roblox, Ninja Assassin continued to exist as a character.
Remembering youth
But in 2009, the unexpected happened. Novice director James McTig, who announced himself with the films "V - means vendetta" and "Invasion", made his film about elusive mysterious killers. The painting "Ninja Assassin" was rated MPAA - R for the abundance of blood in the frame and stylized scenes of violence. The director’s sources of inspiration, according to him, were such tapes as “Panic on the Streets”, “Wasteland”, “Escape” and “Ninja Manuscript”. Perhaps the MakTig experiment failed if it were not for the timely intervention of the Wachowski brothers (already sisters), who at the last moment categorically required a correction of the scenario.
For the role of the central character in the Ninja Assassin movie, the creators invited Rayne, one of the most popular Korean pop idols, who, according to People magazine, became the most beautiful person in the world in 2007. Rain was not a debutant, before participating in the project he managed to star in "Speed Racer" and in "I am a cyborg, but this is normal."
Plot
The plot of the movie "Ninja Assassin" is twisted around the personality of one of Reizo, one of the most dangerous killer mercenaries. The hero was taken from the streets as a child in order to grow up a professional killer of the Ozuna clan. But after the merciless reprisal of clan members over Reizo’s girlfriend, he escapes and hides, carrying out a plan of revenge.
According to critics, the plot, like the whole plot, is rather stingy with details. The narrative is replete with cliches with all the corresponding consequences. The second-order heroes are expressionless, passing. The only exception is Reyzo's fierce mentor, brilliantly played by Randall Duck Keeney. Dialogues are imperfect in the original, in translation they sound strange. However, the Ninja Assassin project has its positive aspects.
Few advantages
To the small advantages of the picture, it is worthwhile to include exemplary combat choreography and staged fights. For the colorfulness of the episodes, you need to thank not only stuntmen and choreographers, but also cameraman Karl Walter Lindenlaub and the team of masters in special effects. In Ninja Assassin, each fight is like a bewitching extravagant dance, equipped with bleeding severed limbs and a myriad of artificial blood. The camera inexorably follows the smooth swings of swords, detailing the details of the murder more spectacularly than in many modern slashers.
