MP-155 is a continuation of the line of smooth-bore gas exhaust guns produced by the Izhevsk plant. In particular, this model is a modified MP-153, which was also quite common among hunters for a long time, but at the same time it had a large number of minuses, due to which it could hardly be considered a more optimal solution than most similar models.
What's new?
According to the manufacturer of this gun, MP-155 managed to fix a fairly large number of shortcomings present in the previous model of this series. In particular, it is worth noting the fact that for a long time negotiations were held with Italian companies that they began to make their own molds for forend in plastic or butt. A variety of internal mechanisms are constantly being refined directly at the factory, and therefore the gun is getting better and better. The MP-155 in plastic, which began to be sold somewhat later compared to standard models, was especially widespread.
What is the difference with the MP-153?
As mentioned above, the characteristics are slightly changed compared to the previous model:
- MP-155 has a lower weight, which was achieved through the use of a gas vent mechanism, as well as the use of a lightweight aiming bar, which also had a very, very positive effect on the balance of this gun.
- For modification 12/76, a reduced receiver length was developed, which also affected the weight reduction.
- Ergonomics has been greatly improved. Now it is possible to reduce the difference in stock using specialized plastic inserts located between it and the receiver. This is a rather important difference that the MP-155 has in comparison with the previous model. Among other things, an absolutely new design of the recoil pad-shock absorber has been developed for this model. Also, special attention should be paid to the reduced stroke of the trigger and the increased fuse button.
New properties
Among other things, in MP-155 certain new properties were added:
- An execution option is provided for shooters whose main hand is the left.
- Added the ability to add collimator or optical sights.
- It provides for the installation of a mechanism that allows you to completely turn off the delivery of cartridges from the store, and at the same time carry out reloading with other cartridges as quickly as possible. No matter what they say, this opportunity was very much lacking for many hunters in the previous version of this gun, when it was necessary to throw cartridges with larger charges in a fairly short time. You can choose for yourself a device with such a mechanism (cutoff) or without it.
What should be noted?
The wooden parts in this gun fit quite well, there are completely no burrs and chips, but in the same way as on the Murka, the fore-end protrudes significantly. A slight appearance should be, as this allows to achieve increased strength of the forearm. Experts say that this performance should be approximately 0.5 mm, but the engineers of the Izhevsk plant have their own opinion, as a result of which the tree protrudes more than 2 mm.
The new recoil pad absorber perfectly performs its own functions, and also allows you to extinguish the feed from shots. But, like any other weapon, there are also certain drawbacks.
What are the disadvantages?
In the process of choosing a weapon, you should pay attention to the alignment of the rings in the barrel, since there should be no waves in it. After acquiring weapons, it will immediately be necessary to carry out its re-conservation. It is necessary to wash absolutely all the dirt out of the box and the trunk with kerosene. Such situations are quite often encountered when metal shavings appear in the box, which must be carefully wiped.
Among other things, of course, it will be necessary to carefully process all the components with a file in order to completely remove the burrs, because it is not in vain that the factory recommends that after purchasing this gun at least 100 shots with a half-magnum. About MP-155 reviews say that while the mechanism will be rubbed, there may be no extraction in the process of firing cartridges with an insignificant proportion of shots.
After the gun is completely disassembled, it will be necessary to lock all kinds of pins, as they are adjusted in such a way that, if necessary, they can be easily removed. Particular attention should be paid to the need for pin locking, which ensures the fixation of the axis of the hammer. If it falls out during the hunt, then in this case it will be almost impossible to disassemble the gun in nature, and therefore it is better to protect yourself from all sorts of troubles in advance. According to the manufacturer himself, the standards have been completely revised, and it should be fixed better, but still it will not hurt to conduct a preliminary check.
To exclude the possibility of non-supply of a cartridge from the store, you need to use the manufacturer's recommendations. First of all, as the reviews say about the MP-155, in the case of the 12/89 caliber, cartridges with a length of not more than 82 mm should be used, while for the 12/76 caliber, cartridges with a length of 71 mm should be used. If the cartridge is extended by at least 1 mm, there is a risk that the cartridge will not be delivered from the magazine.
For those who purchased 12/76 caliber MP-155 weapons and are worried about whether it would be possible to shoot 12/70 caliber ammunition, the Izhevsk factory decided to conduct tests (and hunters had similar studies repeatedly), which showed that there is no dependence of accuracy and sharpness on the chamber or the length of the sleeve, that is, you can shoot quite calmly. The only thing worth noting is that you do not need to charge a longer sleeve into a smaller chamber, as this can ultimately lead to significant swelling of the trunks.
Optics
Judging by the reviews of the owners of such a gun who are going to use a collimator sight on the MP-155, the dovetail mount is very, very far from ideal. There is a significant bulge in it, and also the adapter on the “weaver” rail does not want to be installed, while the brackets and rings on it do not hold so tight. Thus, you need to use the file again or grind the roundness of the mount in detail. An additional option is a situation where the hunting MP-155 has a ground bar adapter.
Despite such a number of different subtleties and minor flaws, in the end the weapon turned out to be very, very good, which is what MP-155 reviews say. The price of this weapon is more affordable compared to most similar models, which also represents a good advantage. Many say that the weapon is lightweight, and is also practical and has an amazing balance. The quality of fitting parts is much better compared to model 153, since there are no all kinds of backlashes and shafts. About MP-155, the reviews of the owners often note a more attractive and elegant appearance of this gun, and this affects the reliability of parts very positively, in connection with which various semi-automatic machines from Turkish manufacturers are significantly inferior to domestic weapons.

The gun comes in a standard cardboard box instead of a reliable case. All also have three muzzle nozzles instead of five, as in the vast majority of modern manufacturers. The gun itself comes in plastic camo, while the barrel is evenly coated and there are no visible seams. Even with a thorough external examination, it is difficult to determine any deviations from the norm, but in order to really buy such a weapon, it is best to pay attention to its detailed selection in advance.
Testing
In the process of testing by experts, it was determined that the gun is distinguished by a sufficiently large number of innovative developments, but at the same time, not all of them are executed really properly. In particular, it is noted that the MP-155 barrel and various metal parts are executed at an extremely low level. When examining the insides, all kinds of unpolished rough furrows, as well as burrs, are immediately struck by the eyes. At the first loading of the gun, you can slightly damage your fingers on uneven edges. For this reason, as mentioned above, it is best to initially undermine the purchased gun a little.

Experts often say that the safety button of this gun is far from the most convenient, since even in the “fire” position it protrudes by about 2 mm, as a result of which it feels like it rests on the index finger.
The second mistake of the designers is already noticeable in the process of carrying out quite active firing, since in the process of such shooting a finger is rubbed against a fairly sharp edge of the receiver located above the trigger. Imported guns quite often differ in the rounding off, but in this model the guns did not decide to use such a solution, which is not the most successful solution.
