In different parts of the world, Easter surprises with the eccentricity of local traditions. Naturally, the symbolism remains common: eggs, pasko, sweets and candles, but in each culture the celebration is distinguished by something unique.
For example, in Australia, confectioners make bandicuts instead of chocolate rabbits, and for this money they support this endangered animal species. This is because traditional rabbits are considered pests in the area and are not popular.
Despite the fact that Christians make up only 2.5 percent of the population of India, Easter festivities are also organized there, especially in the northeastern states. These are carnivals with street plays, songs and dances; exchange of sweets, flowers and colorful lanterns.
There is a 350-year tradition in the Italian Easter celebration when the trolley is loaded with fireworks and driven. This symbolizes peace and a successful year. And south of Florence is the city of Panicale, where a big celebration takes place the day after Easter: the locals gather for a competition and ride huge wheels of cheese around the perimeter of the village.
In France (in Hauks) it is customary to serve a giant omelet in the main square of the city. It is prepared from more than 4,500 eggs, and they can feed up to 1,000 people. In the UK, games are held on the strength of boiled eggs, in Greece people throw pots, pans and other clay dishes from the windows, which marks the beginning of spring, in Poland it is customary to pour water, in Norway - to read crime novels. One of the interesting features of Easter in the USA is colored chickens.
American tradition
This happens every Easter Sunday: next to chocolate rabbits, egg-shaped jelly beans and green plastic grass in a basket of sweets, many children find fluffy, and sometimes colored, chickens. While Florida recently lifted a ban on the practice of coloring chicks, creativity is still in conflict with the animal rights group.
In most cases, such “living gifts” are found in shelters under the supervision of the United States Humane Society. However, unlike rabbits, chicks turn into chickens or roosters, from which their attractiveness quickly fades.
Humane point of view
Photo of colored chickens - what could be nicer? But pets should be considered companions. But when such as Easter chickens turn purple or pink, they take on the role not of family friends, but rather of decorations that do not require care or attention.
“Anything that encourages people to take animals to their homes without thinking about the long-term consequences will have negative consequences for the animals,” say fauna advocates.
Incubation
It takes twenty-one days to breed colored chickens in an incubator. In the eighteenth of them, a harmless food coloring is used: the chick is sprayed and placed back into the incubator for drying. Two days later, the dye peels off.
From the practice of 2008: an American businessman was engaged in the sale of chicks, always offering customers to return them if their children became bored (which was usually the case). Since that time, sellers of colored animals have become smaller and smaller. This was largely due to pressure from animal advocates. Firstly, they argued their dissatisfaction with the fact that coloring is stress and an unnatural process, and secondly, chickens are too young and fragile to be a commodity.
In 2012, a home experiment was conducted. Dr. Kjelland introduced duck and chicken embryos into the fluorescent dye used to create ultraviolet tattoos, to create brightly colored neon flowers and to please their children for Easter.
Problem
Before you make colored chickens and sell them, you should think: what will happen to them next? Most likely, after a few moments of joy, the chicks will be left in a shoe box with holes or somewhere outside, without protection and care. Someone returns them back to the seller, and someone completely eats. In general, a sad outcome awaits them, so the tradition of coloring is a thing of the past.
A peculiar way out of this situation is exactly the same staining, but for adults. Thus, when the paint goes off, people have excellent meat. By the way, the idea of colored chickens for Easter found its alternative for Thanksgiving.
