Judging by the audienceâs reviews, The Key to All Doors is one of the most stunning horror films ever made by American and German filmmakers. Most visitors to virtual cinemas, having been impressed by their viewing impressions, admit that they did not even realize that they were watching a horror movie - after all, the terrible truth only opens at the very end ...
Multi-genre film project
The movie âThe Key to All Doorsâ is first perceived by many moviegoers as a detective (this is not surprising - the main character conducts its own investigation!), And after some time they note that the screen is a real mystical thriller ...
In this film, the plot of which is âinvolvedâ in the relocation of souls, there are no bloody and frankly mystical scenes, and those viewers who did not have the patience to watch âThe Key ...â to the end, as a rule, are perplexed: âWhat is this horror film? What is terrible here? â
Interesting details
The mystical thriller directed by Ian Softley âThe Key to All Doorsâ is a 2005 film. This is the second picture (after the Ka-Pax Planet), staged by Ian in the 21st century.
One of the advertising slogans of this film project, the script for which was written by Eren Krueger, was the phrase "Do not be afraid, do not believe anyone."
The budget of the picture amounted to 43 million dollars, and the box office after the world premiere - 91 978 818 dollars. The box office in America amounted to $ 47,907,715.
The Key to All Doors: Cast Actors
The image of the main character - the nurse Caroline Ellis - was embodied on the screen by the American actress Kate Hudson, known for the films â200 Cigarettesâ, âAbout Adamâ, âHow to Get Away from a Guy in Ten Daysâ, âGold of Foolsâ, âWar of the Bridesâ .. .
Spouses Devereaux played John Hurt (starred in the first part of "Harry Potter") and Gina Rowlands ("The Incredible Mrs. Ritchie").
The role of Carolineâs best friend went to Joy Bright (Joy appears on the screen in only four episodes, but thanks to her heroine, the audience can predict the continuation of this story).
Director Ian Softley
Filming The Key to All Doors, director Ian Softley could hardly have imagined that fans of mystical thrillers would suspect him of plagiarism. Softley was rewarded with such accusations by regulars of online cinemas, who saw in the plot of The Key ... some similarities with The Others, The Heart of an Angel, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and the second part of the horror Bell. For the sake of justice, it is worth noting that the authors of such reviews are in the minority.
The name of Ian Softley is well known to moviegoers of the twentieth century: his biographical drama The Beatles: Four Plus One was released in 1994. Softley also directed the comedy thriller âHackersâ (was released at the box office in 1995), and the melodrama âWings of the Doveâ (the film premiered in 1997). Softley returned to the theme of âhorrorâ in 2015, when he introduced the Curve Line thriller to the audience.
Screenwriter Eren Kruger
The American Eren Krueger worked on the script for the movie "The Key to All Doors" (2005 film). Fame came to him after the release of the films âThe New World Disorderâ and âThe Road to Arlingtonâ (both paintings were presented in 1999), âGamblingâ and âScream-3â (first shown in 2000).
In 2002, the film âThe Callâ was presented to the audience, and by 2005, the scripts âThe Brothers Grimmâ and âCall 2â came out from Krueger's pen. He is also the screenwriter of some Transformers series.
"The key to all doors": user reviews of the global Web about the work of Kate Hudson
Prior to The Key ..., this American actress appeared mainly in youth comedies and melodramas, where she got the roles of romantic beauties.
For Hudson, the role of Caroline, according to some visitors to virtual cinemas (as evidenced by their reviews), "The Key to All Doors" is the first attempt to "play something serious."
Among the comments left by fans of the actress, there are both enthusiastic and less flattering. Some of the visitors to virtual cinemas even thought that any other pretty girl could perfectly handle the role of Caroline.
The content of the movie "The key to all doors"
The main character of the picture, 25-year-old Caroline works in a hospice and dreams of "promotion" - the place of a personal carer in one of the quiet corners of America. Soon, such a place is located: the girl gets a place in a suburban house, the owners of which are incapacitated dumb old man Ben and his suspicious wife Violet.
Caroline had no difficulty guessing that her new ward was afraid to stay in the company of her own wife. The girl feels that this fear is not unfounded and begins her own investigation ... Meanwhile, the mistress of the house gives the young nurse a key with which you can open all the doors in the house. All but one leading to the attic. This forbidden door (due to which strange rustlings are constantly heard), like a magnet, attracts a young nurse ... In the end, Violet decides to satisfy Caroline's curiosity and tells her the story of the house.
A hundred years have passed since the house of the Devereaux couple belonged to a certain banker and his household: his wife and two young children. The household was maintained by black servants - Aunt Cecile and Uncle Jestifal. The blacks secretly practiced black magic: not wanting to age, Cecile and Jestifal mastered a spell that allowed them to leave their aged bodies when the time came. Searching for gullible, young and healthy people, they made a âexchangeâ in a bad way, renewing their lives again and again.

Once, when the banker's house was full of guests, the children stocked somewhere, and the tipsy guests rushed to search every corner of the large master's house. The search ended in the attic: the children were found in a small room under the roof itself, the inhabitants of which were black servants. Everything showed that the ownerâs children had witnessed some kind of witchcraft action ... The angry owner, not wanting to hear the inconsistent explanations of Cecile and Jestifal, himself executed them ...
After several unsuccessful attempts, Caroline still manages to open the forbidden door, behind which was a ritual room, laden with the attributes of African magicians. Meanwhile, Ben makes attempts to "reach out" to Caroline, unsuccessfully uses all the methods available to him to warn the girl about the danger. However, Caroline, carried away by her investigation, does not notice these âmessagesâ. In addition, for some time now, her thoughts have been occupied by Luke, a lawyer for the Devereaux spouses, who, in fact, is not at all who he claims to be.
What else can be said about the movie "The key to all doors"? The plot of the film is fully revealed only to the sounds of the final chords. Looking at the feeble old people, whose bodies contained the souls of a young girl and a man full of strength, the viewer involuntarily relives the events of previous episodes of the picture and reinterprets them.
Characters John Hurt, Gina Rowlands and Peter Sarsgaard
If the Devereaux couple (who, as it turned out at the end of the film, were actually the worst enemies) at the very beginning of the film story caused the audience only pity and sympathy, then only the main character, whose soul was âimprisonedâ in the body, causes sympathy âbehind the curtainâ elderly woman.
Many viewers (as evidenced by their reviews) perceived the "Key to All Doors" as a series of mutually exclusive events, although in reality everything is simple and scary. The spirit of the young lawyer Luke Marshall languished in the body of a paralyzed old man Benjamin (the latter was played by Peter Sarsgaard, who at that time was known for the films âThe Man in the Iron Maskâ (premiered in 1998), âThe Marinesâ and âThe Illusion of Flightâ (both paintings were the first time demonstrated in 2005)), under the guise of which Uncle Jestifal was temporarily hiding.
As for the black woman Cecile, whom everyone mistook for Violet Devereaux, she had been waiting all this time for a suitable âtemporary refugeâ to turn up for her, and, unfortunately, the choice of the witch fell on Caroline.
