âThe Disgusting Eightâ is a film by the outstanding contemporary director Quentin Tarantino, the basis of which is an alloy of classic genre film stamps endowed with a unique authorial style.
On the patterns of Westerns
According to the assessment of eminent film critics âThe Abominable Eightâ (front-end actors: C. Russell, S. L. Jackson, T. Roth, M. Madsen, D. D. Lee, W. Goggins, D. Bishir) was created according to the patterns of canonical westerns period of the mid 60-ies of the twentieth century. The picture stands out from the whole rich filmography of the scandalous director with its atmosphere, style, more moderate pace of development of the plot action, while recalling all the previous projects of the director. In addition to the unique, in a word, Tarantino dialogues and pathos-grotesque bloodshed, the film has other features characteristic of Tarantino: the division of the plot into separate episodes, chapters, the presence of foul language, sparkling black humor, an abundance of close-ups and other distinctive touches of camera work.
Plot
The action takes place a few years after the end of the Civil War in the United States, Wyoming. Reckless bounty hunter Hangman (Kurt Russell) has managed to capture the murder suspect Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Lee). Now he is heading to Redrock in order to transfer the fugitive to the hands of justice. On the way, he meets a motley company: in the past, an officer supporting the northerners, now the harsh mercenary Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) and introduced himself as the new Redrock sheriff, a renegade, follower of the southerners Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins). Due to the raging snowstorm, random companions are forced to take refuge in the nearest building, standing on the outskirts. Minnie, the mistress of the shop, is absent, and instead four more suspicious personalities are in charge. The atmosphere is heating up, perhaps not all guests will see the dawn.
One of the advantages of the film
In the course of the development of the plot action, the different stories that make up the mosaic of the plot come to their logical culmination. The tape clearly shows two of Tarantino's favorite topics: merciless criticism of sexism and racism and a search for justice, albeit a rather peculiar one. Some film critics ranked the filmâs shortcomings as the absence of clear scenarios in individual stories, but all ranked the dignified cast of the film âThe Abominable Eightâ as one of the advantages. The actors invited by the director to participate in the production of the tape, for the most part already had experience in cooperation with Tarantino. All the movie stars did an excellent job of directing the director, but Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell were especially good, playing desperate, elderly, but still deadly bounty hunters.
Favorite Veterans
Samuel L. Jackson and Tim Roth have already met on the set of the canonical Pulp Fiction. Tim and Madsen co-starred in the inexorable Rabid Dogs, Madsen and Jackson in the aesthetic gangster saga, âKill Bill 2â. In total, Samuel L. Jackson starred in 5 projects of Quentin Tarantino, and Madsen and Roth - in three. This star trinity is considered to be the favorite actors of the director, but the first film in which they all play together was the film "The Disgusting Eight." Actors, long accustomed to the Tarantino manner, made up a wonderful creative tandem. But they did not manage to âpull the blanket over themselvesâ, overshadowing other performers.
"Captive" by Daisy Domergue
For the role of Daisy, which as a result was played by Jennifer Jason Lee, Tarantino was initially invited by Katie Sackhoff. The actress attended several rehearsals and was practically approved for the role, but at the last moment the director listened to the producers, who decided that the girl was too young and could not reliably reveal the image of one of the key characters. So Jennifer had a chance to reincarnate in Domergue, whom she met again on the set with Russell after a duet from âBackdraftâ.
Lee is known as a performer of the roles of vulnerable, sometimes mentally inadequate, emotional and complex women. Her filmography contains more than 70 films, the most significant of which are: "Companion", "Spawn", "Jacket", "Amityville" and "Abominable Eight." The actors who starred in the film with Lee were delighted when she was nominated for an Oscar for the role of Daisy. The last tape in which the actress is currently starring is the 2016 Morgan painting.
The Hangman John Routh (Kurt Russell)
The âGhastly Eightâ lost a significant share of its charm if the first-rate movie star Kurt Russell had not taken part in its creation. The actor, who was at the peak of his popularity in the late 80s - early 90s, is known to a wide audience by numerous action films and fantastic films. The most significant films in Russellâs filmography are the Bone Tomahawk, Something, Death Proof, Escape from New York, and The Hateful Eight.
Sheriff Chris Mannix and Mexican Bob
American actor and producer Walton Goggins tried on the image of âSheriffâ. He is the most popular performer of the television movie Shield. Among his significant paintings are "Predators" and the short film "Accountant". Goggins was repeatedly nominated for an Emmy film award as Best Supporting Actor.
Demian Bishir, who played in Bob's Eight, a Mexican television and film actor, was nominated for an Oscar for participating in the drama Best Life. According to Bishir, the movie "Flying Over the Cuckoo's Nest" with Jack Nicholson prompted him to try his hand at the cinema . The most successful films in the filmography of the actor are âSex, shame and tearsâ, âThere is no news from Godâ, âCops in skirtsâ, âMachete killsâ.
