Preparation for laparoscopy

Laparoscopy today is one of the most advanced surgical methods. It is an operation during which a miniature chamber and surgical instruments are inserted through very small holes into the abdominal cavity . The operation is carried out using a laparoscope - a universal apparatus that makes seamless operations. And as with other surgical interventions, it is preceded by a preparation for laparoscopy, performed by the doctor and patient together.

The very first step is the process of identifying any contraindications that will interfere with the operation. To this end, doctors insist on checking the operation of all the main organs of the human body, thus eliminating all unforeseen consequences.

As with any other surgical intervention, a successful outcome of the operation will be greatly facilitated by the correct preparation for laparoscopy, which in this case should be carried out with special care.

A week before the appointed day of laparoscopic surgery, you need to go on a diet: all those foods that can cause malfunctions of the intestine or stomach should be excluded from the diet. It is desirable that non-fat broths, fish and meat, cottage cheese, kefir and various cereals predominate on the menu. It is necessary to completely exclude black bread, fruits and vegetables, as well as legumes from food.

The day before laparoscopy, it is better to eat only liquid food, and before the operation itself, with the help of an enema, completely empty the intestines. Usually, doctors recommend that patients take activated carbon tablets.

Preparation for laparoscopy in a medical institution must necessarily include such examinations as:

  • blood chemistry;
  • coagulogram;
  • general blood and urine tests;
  • tests for the detection of HIV, Wasserman reactions, hepatitis C and B;
  • blood type determination ;
  • electrocardiogram;
  • fluorography.

The patient should know that many of the tests taken are valid for a limited time, for example, the duration of general blood or urine tests is only two weeks, and therefore it is not worth doing them long before the operation.

If necessary, appropriate consultations with specialists.

Preparation for laparoscopy also involves the clarification of all the most important circumstances regarding the patient's disease. It is necessary to find out issues related to all the diseases that he had, the passage of the necessary treatment, the presence of allergies to drugs, as well as the operations that he had previously undergone.

The next stage of preparation is to stop taking any painkillers and other medicines, and eight to ten hours before the operation begins - abstinence from food.

If a woman has laparoscopy, gynecology recommends doing it no earlier than three days before the onset of menstruation. In this case, among other tests, a swab from the vagina and the presence of cancer cells is also done.

Many patients before laparoscopy experience discomfort caused by anxiety for the upcoming operation. Therefore, soothing teas or tinctures with motherwort, hawthorn or valerian are very useful for relieving stress and normalizing the mental state.

Before such surgical intervention, it is necessary to protect yourself during sexual intercourse for some time, and with such means that do not contain any hormonal drugs, it is optimal if they are condoms, since in this case the body will also be protected from infections.

Preparation for laparoscopy starts from the moment of signing the consent form, before which you need to discuss with the doctor all the risks, the predicted results and, if there is any problem, expanding the operation to abdominal.

You need to know that laparoscopic surgery mainly depends on the conscious preparation of the patient, as well as the normalization of weight and regulation of the activity of the stomach and intestines even before it begins.
