Profiling is a new word in pedagogy. Let us analyze its task and the main parameters. The purpose of this process is to help children in the proper selection of their future profession. In Russian education, specialization areas are offered at the senior level of training.
Important points
After the modernization of domestic education, Russian schools introduced second-generation standards at each level of education. In particular, compulsory pre-profile training is introduced for students in ninth grades. The children (to choose from) are offered several elective courses in various academic disciplines (interdisciplinary courses). Pupils, picking up one or more of these electives, get a real opportunity to decide on the subsequent direction. Early profiling is an opportunity to choose the educational disciplines that a student will need to enter a particular educational institution.
Useful Tips
If the educational organization does not have the opportunity to offer high school students an in-depth study of individual subjects, it is quite possible to do it yourself, choose a tutor. Profiling at school plays an important role in creating ideas about the relationship between school subjects and future specialty. Unfortunately, far from all educational institutions in our country pay due attention to such issues.
Main problems
Profiling training is a serious and responsible process, which involves the interest of all participants in the educational process: parents, teachers, children. Before embarking on an in-depth study of any individual subjects, serious preparatory work is required. In particular, diagnostics (preliminary testing) is important, according to the results of which it is possible to identify the predisposition of adolescents to certain scientific fields. An analysis of the results allows you to identify the student's predisposition to the practical study of specialized disciplines (school subjects).
Until such a serious analysis is made, any “movements” in any direction will not only bring the desired result, but can also contribute to negative consequences. In a Soviet school, parents tried to impose their children on studying in a particular educational institution, choosing for them those subjects and areas that they considered the most promising, which negatively affected the mental and physical condition of adolescents.
Currently, among the problems that high school students face when choosing a direction of study, they distinguish:
the minimality of schools with genuine specialized training (in most educational institutions, the choice of academic disciplines for in-depth study is a formality);
there is no way to select a profile yourself (in many public institutions, the distribution of classes is based on academic performance);
many teenagers in 12-15 years are not ready to determine their future profession
Similar problems are associated with primary vocational guidance, they indicate the need for consultation with students in grades 8-9.
The importance of career counseling
In the framework of the new educational standards, which are introduced at all levels of education, special attention is paid to career guidance. In particular, for ninth graders a career guidance course is being conducted. Its developers are classroom leaders and psychologists. In addition to a variety of tests and diagnostics, with the results of which the teenagers themselves and their parents get acquainted, teachers attract representatives of various specialties. Acquaintance of ninth-graders with their main activities contributes to the awareness of the content of professions, helps adolescents in the selection of subjects for in-depth study at the senior level of education.
Educational innovation
The Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation is aware of the importance of early diagnosis, so a special portal called ProeKtoria was developed. Children of grades 7-11 receive an excellent opportunity to join in the All-Russian open lessons. Since profiling education is an active creative process, high school students are offered case studies in various areas. Large companies are connected to work.
Profiling is that area of activity to which the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation is currently paying particular attention. The guys, solving tasks in ecology, biology, medicine, physics, chemistry, at the same time receive additional information about those professions in which these subjects will be required. Winners are invited to the All-Russian Forum, in which the children get a great opportunity to plunge into the profession itself, to "try" it on themselves. Of course, the career guidance of the younger generation should be systematic and focused. Only if all participants in the educational process — teachers, parents, students — are interested in such an activity, a positive result can be guaranteed.
High School Model
In some Russian educational institutions, profiling is an opportunity to prepare for passing a unified state exam. This position is absolutely unacceptable, since the main purpose of specialized training is to immerse a high school student in the subject. How can a teenager be provided with independent choice of those school subjects that he will study at an advanced level? In some educational institutions at the senior level, training is conducted according to individual plans.
When entering the 10th grade, the teenager, together with his parents, chooses subjects whose study is compulsory at the basic (minimum) level, and also notes the academic disciplines that he would like to study at an in-depth or profile level. In this case, profiling is an in-depth study of several subjects selected by a high school student. This option can be considered a multi-profile, it is suitable for small educational organizations, where due to the limited number of students in grades 10-11 it is impossible to organize full-fledged specialized classes.
To summarize
In domestic education, large-scale transformations are currently underway. At the level of the primary school, vocational guidance courses are introduced aimed at introducing students to the world of professions. The senior level of training involves the selection of basic and specialized subjects by the children, training is carried out according to various methods and programs. A personality-oriented approach helps to identify and develop the individual abilities of each child.
