The animated series Gintama is a special film that combines a serious plot, charismatic characters with an unprecedented degree of revelry and insanity in literally every series. This kind of anime is a bit, which makes Hideaki Sorati's work even more memorable. Each of the heroes of the tape is unique and completely unpredictable in its own way. Largely because of this, the picture turned out to be so popular and famous. One such hero is Hijikata Toshiro (The Thorny). This mayonnaise lover can argue in terms of the number of adherents with the main characters and remains one of Gintama's “calling cards”. He is honest, tidy, cruel and recommends everyone to do seppuku (ritual suicide), because the real deputy must be executive.
Appearance
Hijikata Toshiro never betrays the Shinsengumi form. You can hardly see him without his uniform a couple of times throughout the story. In addition, unlike Sogo and other dojo brothers, Toshi prefers to fight with a katana, without breaking up with weapons even at night. He is a brunette, the color of his eyes is lilac, pale blue. He smokes, so sometimes he is forced to “shoot” cigarettes, for some reason he always finds mayonnaise next to him, which has become one of the constant jokes about the character. What is the favorite color of the hero, as well as the preferred style in clothes - is unknown. Toshiro, apparently, prefers to lead the lifestyle of a samurai of the Tokugawa shogunate era. In his movements, gait, and manner of speaking, the style of a proud warrior is visible.
Personality and manner of communication
Devil's deputy. Commander is not easy to communicate. Often he is cold-blooded, has considerable endurance, and therefore is straightforward in communication. Hijikata Toshiro prefers to express to the person everything that he thinks about him. He trusts only his commander, Kondo Isao, but also wants to fight him. Usually adheres to a very direct posture and does not tolerate bandits of any kind. He does not betray his words, which even became one of the reasons for the long hostility with his subordinate. This samurai shows real emotions only at the sight of mayonnaise, his favorite drama, or being in anger. In this state, it resembles a cliché of a berserker, without hesitation in expressions, and crushing everything around. In relations, cold and secretive, however, only at first.
Shinsengumi
In the dojo of the Kondo Hijikata, Toshiro was still a child. He got into a serious brawl, was seriously beaten, and fell down with severe wounds. However, the boy’s manner of fighting and his fuse were to the taste of Kondo, who eventually put Toshi as his deputy. Kazui Nakai, a seiyu who voiced a lover of mayonnaise, has repeatedly noted that his hero, like Zoro from The Big Kush, reminds one of a real warrior by all appearance. Subordinates are afraid of their commander, as are opponents. For them, Toshi is the embodiment of a swordsman, a man of honor. For the same reason, Hijikata does not like to show emotions or real feelings in the company of fellow organization. In addition, he created all the Shinsengumi rules, violation of any of which is punishable by seppuku. Among his brothers, Toshiro has practically no friends, since everyone eschews a cold samurai.
Toshi and Thorny
Each of the characters in the animated series Gintama has its own weaknesses, distinctive qualities and a rich background. Toshiro was no exception. Hijikata Toshiro and Gina are called Thorny, those who have acquired the skill of handling the sword as a result of training. Once Gin (White demon) was one of the heads of the terrorist organization "Jay", which is opposed by "Shinsengumi." In one of the battles, he converged on swords with Toshiro, which later became a symbol of an equal battle between two legendary swordsmen. The Thorny themselves do not consider themselves geniuses and, if possible, confront the Elite - talented fighters from birth.
Toshi is the second “form” of the hero, she is distinguished by strong emotional outbursts and is often carefully hidden by the protagonist. Usually Hijikata is extremely smart and acts as the brain center of the organization, but, having lost control from surging emotions, it becomes stupid and even naive. The hero himself hates this nickname and recommends that all lovers use it seppuku.
Relations
All people for Toshiro are divided according to two categories: contempt and something remotely similar to friendship. The latter hardly includes two, including the Shinsengumi commander. But the samurai openly hates his deputy - Okito Sogo and Gin, the protagonist and employee "for hire." He dreams of fighting with him again. Kondo replaced the father with the hero, which is why Toshiro respects his commander very much and executes his orders with literally zealous zeal. Hatred of Gin is dictated by the terrorist and radical past thereof, but Sogo Toshiro despises for his love of sadism and laziness. He, however, reciprocates.
Tensions between the two men are also caused by Sogo's sister Okito Mitsuba. She loved Toshiro when he was still a dojo, but he refused her. The swordsman believed that he could not give anything to his beloved, moreover, he did not want to leave her alone, knowing that he could die in any skirmish. In words, “the eloquent devil” could only say that the girl’s feelings are her personal affair. Sogo heard this appeal and hated Toshiro, whom he had not endured before for hard training.
Love for mayonnaise
If Toshiro is able to enter into a serious relationship, then they can be considered a love of mayonnaise. Without a hitch, the hero is able to swallow an incredible number of this sauce with literally anything. Dessert, first course, tea, coffee ... Mayonnaise goes with everything. No one knows the reasons for such a strange hobby, but they are directly afraid of asking the commander, knowing that Toshiro is quick to kill his subordinates. For inexplicable reasons, the hero always finds a bottle of mayonnaise, even in situations where he is in danger or an early death. He even earned the nickname Major 13 for a specific weapon, fully charged with mayonnaise. This also includes love for strange dramas, unable to evoke emotions in anyone other than the hero, and cigarettes.
Extracts from the biography
It is known that Toshiro is 27 years old, and his birthday falls on May 5. Seiyu character Nakai Kazuya noted that the hero does not reveal his past. He does not consider him happy. The biography of Hijikat Toshiro is extremely scarce on details. It is said that he caused trouble to the entire dojo, intervening even in losing battles. Later, when Kondo took him as a student, the boy avoided making friends among his dojo comrades. During the day, he simply watched the training, and spent the nights in his own classes. He also hates terrorists, it is assumed that there are personal reasons for such hostility, but Toshiro himself does not apply to this.
