Altai Motor Plant is a major domestic manufacturer of diesel engines, electric generating sets, main marine diesel engines and diesel generators. Its engines and equipment are installed in combines, tractors, river boats, road and forestry equipment. Production facilities are located in the city of Barnaul.
The beginning of the way
In the 1950s, a large-scale program was launched in the Soviet Union for the plowing of fallow and virgin lands. Although the main arable land was located in the north of Kazakhstan, in southern Siberia significant territories were also subject to cultivation. However, before this it was necessary to increase the production of mechanized agricultural machinery.
In 1955, in the vicinity of Barnaul, the Altai Motor Plant began operating (at that time it was called a combine-assembly plant). Initially, harvesters and harvesters for combines were assembled here. However, in 1958 the company profile changed. The team was instructed to master the production of diesel engines, first 4- and later 6-cylinder.
Engine drawings were sent from the Kharkov Tractor Plant, and a number of specialists were sent from there for consultations. The first 55-horsepower combine engine SMD-7 was made already in 1959.
Development
Having gained experience, the factory workers organized their own design bureau. For several years, the team managed to construct a 6-cylinder powerful 110-horsepower diesel engine of the A-01 series. After testing and refinement, it was launched in a series in 1963. At the same time, a more economical 4-cylinder A-41 engine was being developed, which, meanwhile, had an enviable capacity of 95 l for that time. with. These engines became the base for the Altai Motor Plant in Barnaul, in a modified form they are produced to this day. They were intended primarily for manning tractors of the DT-75 and T-4 models.
Over the following years, AMZ developed, the design of diesel engines improved, and equipment was updated. The efforts of the team in 1976 were marked by the award of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
By 1980, it was already a gigantic enterprise with a wide range of products. Over 22,000 people worked in its workshops. Altai Motor developed a socio-cultural base, built housing for employees. In 1986, a 155,000th engine was delivered to the country's tractor plants.
In the new conditions
After the collapse of the USSR, mass privatization and corporatization began in Russia. I could not remain without attention and such a "tidbit." First, a plot for the production of fuel equipment was separated from the enterprise (with the personal participation of B. Yeltsin). Later, the aluminum casting workshop “broke away” from the Altai Motor Plant.
The following years were not sweet for the team. Following a decrease in tractor production, diesel production declined. Part of the idle space was sold to commercial entities. However, the factory workers do not intend to give up. The entry into the structure of Tractor Plants holding in 2006 allowed us to optimize costs and accumulate funds for re-equipment and modernization.
Products
Today, AMZ has a wide range of products. The basis is diesel engines with a power range from 80 to 420 horsepower. In 2007, a new generation of engines, characterized by increased reliability, efficiency, and the ability to work in severe climatic conditions of Siberia, went into the series. Their important competitive advantages are high maintainability and affordable price.
The plant offers customers the following line of diesel engines:
- Combined tractor without turbocharging A-41, A-01 series.
- Combined tractor with a turbocharger of the D-422, D-461 series.
- Combined tractor highly accelerated D-3040, D-3060.
- Ship (main and auxiliary), emergency.
- For power generating sets (electrical units).
In addition, as a representative of the holding, AMZ offers for sale a family of Russian tractors of the 30TK, 50TK, 85TK, 90TG series.
At the moment, design work is underway at the Altai Motor Plant to launch a series of engines running on methane gas. They are intended for gas generating installations, which are becoming more widespread in the Siberian and Far Eastern regions. For their testing, a special box was built in which it is safe to test power plants in various modes.
