How did scientist Everett Kaul become Abe Sapien?
Biography
Abe Sapien, whose real name is Langdon Everett Kaul, spent his first life as a Victorian scientist. He was a member of the Oann Society. It was an occult organization, whose members believed that all knowledge, like life itself, arose in the sea.
One day, Kaul found under the water a honey-like creature over which members of the organization conducted a secret ritual. This freed the creature and turned Everett into a completely new look. He was named Ihtio Sapien.
Representatives of the Oann society saw a sign in this sign, and decided to seal the developing organism in a water chamber. She was hidden in a laboratory located under a hospital in Washington. Kaul's colleagues expected to wait until the moment when the new creature is finally formed. But the Civil War began, and all members of the secret organization were evacuated, not having time to pick up the camera with the creature. Everett remained in the laboratory until 1978, until he was found by workers.
At first, the creature found was called Abraham Sapien because of a piece of paper that was attached to the camera. The sheet was dated to the date of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, namely on April 14, 1856.
Abe Sapien did not remember life as a scientist. He was taken to the IHEP (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Protection) with the camera. Curious scientists were going to conduct experiments on him, but Hellboy saved him from such a fate. Over time, Sapien became an agent of the IHEP. His first mission was to work with Hellboy, which took place in 1981.
Appearing in the work “Hellboy: a hero from the fire”, Sapien became a character in other works of his author. These are comic books from the Hellboy and IHL series. He is written about in Awakening the Devil, Plague of Frogs, Garden of Souls, King of Fear, Cause of the Gods, Cause of Monsters.
The latest work shows that Sapien’s condition suddenly worsened at the headquarters of the BIZ. Employees manage to maintain the vitality of the body, but doctors declared the brain dead.
Strengths and weaknesses of the hero
Abe Sapien is an amphibian humanoid. It is able to stay for a long time both in water and on land. For this, he has gills and human lungs. However, in order not to make him weak, he needs to maintain constant moisture in his body.
Due to the unique structure - the presence of membranes on the limbs, large bright eyes, well-developed muscles - Sapien swims excellently at very large depths, he sees well even in muddy water.
Abe's main strengths:
- lightning fast reaction;
- endurance;
- excellent wound healing;
- lack of signs of aging;
- telepathy and psychometry skills.
The hero’s only significant weakness is his dependence on moisture. If his skin does not constantly moisturize, Sapien will weaken. Therefore, it can often be seen in the water chamber.
Hero abilities
Besides the natural benefits that amphibian man Abe Sapien possesses, he also has the abilities he learned. Agent BIZE is an excellent master of hand-to-hand combat. He is also a good connoisseur of both firearms and knives.
All the strength and abilities that Sapien possesses make him practically invincible in battle. In a sense, it can be called immortal.
