Inertial coils have remained relevant and popular for decades. The principle of their action is very simple. From the name it is clear that if in a spinning gear the line is unwound by inertia, then it is inertial. This means that the coil does not unwind immediately, but with a slight deceleration.
Inertial reels help anglers make complex castings and wiring. With their help, when casting a spinner or other bait, it begins to spin the reel. But there is a slight nuance here. The thing is that the coil does not spin up immediately, but with a little delay. The reason for this is inertia. The moment the bait enters the water, the reel starts to work in the opposite way. Its rotation continues further, and the revolutions slow down only over time.
But inertial coils have a number of features. Very interesting is the fact that the inertia values ββof the reels of the coil directly depend on their masses. In other words, the lower the weight, the lower this indicator, and vice versa. It is for this reason that modern manufacturers produce these gears from light alloys. So, with the help of a spinning rod equipped with such a reel, it is possible to make a successful cast of even a 5 gram bait at a distance of 30 meters. But with old models it is almost impossible. Another plus is that the drum becomes easier to stop, because its weight is much less.
Inertial coils have a number of advantages:
- the absolute simplicity of the device. These coils have only a drum, shaft, brake and bearings;
- sensitivity to the slightest movements of the bait. With other types of coils, it is difficult, since a gearbox is used;
- large drum capacity. This affects the diameter and length of the fishing line, which allows you to catch weighty and obstinate fish;
- tangible cheapness with good quality goods.
For many anglers with a solid track record, inertial reels are more familiar and convenient, so they donβt like to switch to inertialess ones. However, any thing has not only advantages, but also disadvantages. This tackle has a few negative qualities, but still some of them need to be voiced:
- small casting range. This sometimes interferes when you want to make an energetic and very strong throw;
- low speed winding during wiring. The most striking example is the Nelma inertia coil. The diameter of the drum is 114 mm, but at the same time, to wind one meter of fishing line, you need to make three turns of the reel. And this is a lot. It is impractical to increase the diameter of the drum, as this will increase the weight, and the work of the coil will deteriorate;
- The continuous formation of a "beard." This trouble happens even with experienced fishermen. It is almost impossible to foresee it.
Of course, these shortcomings noticeably worsen the performance of gear when fishing. But inertial coils, the price of which is affordable, are still not inferior to other types of coils, and sometimes they are simply irreplaceable when hunting for large trophies. This tackle has been serving fishermen for many years and helped to get more than one weighty fish.
