The Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) is located on Pushkinskaya Street. The staff of the institution conducts scientific and medical activities in the field of medical radiology. Thanks to their knowledge and efforts, Ukrainian science has the ability to provide qualified assistance to cancer patients, people whose work is related to radiation, as well as to everyone who suffered from the Chernobyl accident.
History
The Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) was founded almost immediately after the revolution - in 1920, and was then called the All-Ukrainian X-ray Academy. Five years later, with the development of science and the expansion of the field of study, the institution was renamed the Ukrainian X-ray and radiological institute. In 1955, a radical reorganization took place, as a result of which the Kharkov Research Institute of Medical Radiology was formed on the basis of the institute. The main direction of study and research has become the scientific basis of radiology in medicine.
The founder of the institute was an outstanding scientist Sergei Petrovich Grigoriev, on the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) received his name. This event happened in 1995. In 2000, the institute became part of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
Modernity
The Institute of Medical Radiology at different periods of time solved the problems that arise in people in connection with acute forms of radiation sickness, local manifestations of radiation injuries. Here, constant monitoring of the condition of people working in the area of constant radiation was carried out, much attention was paid to the possibilities of therapeutic and diagnostic use of radioactive isotopes.
The Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) is the leading medical institution in Ukraine in the field of radiology, metrology, and dosimetry of ionizing radiation. The scientific base of the institute and the accumulated experience in the treatment of complex diseases provide the institution with the title of the main training center for training specialists in this field. To increase awareness, exchange experience, convey scientific ideas to colleagues and ordinary citizens in 1993, the Ukrainian Radiological Journal was founded and is still being published in the institution.
The main areas of research and practical activities of the Institute's employees are radiology issues, which are being developed in several areas. The development and implementation of scientific achievements in the field of radiation diagnostics, dosimetry, radiation medicine, as well as full-fledged metrological support of devices using isotope radiation are priority. The Institute and individual employees are members of European and international societies involved in radiology and oncology.
Medical activity
The Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) has a clinical department of radiation pathology. Within the walls of the medical institution, patients with radiation diseases are observed and receive qualified assistance; here, assistance is provided to victims of the Chernobyl disaster. The clinic can accept 220 people for hospitalization at a time, the total number of patients per year is an average of 4 thousand people.
The treatment is carried out with medical methods, the diagnostic base is not only updated, but also supplemented by experimental methods of diagnosis, therapy and new medical equipment, which is tested at the institute. The in-patient department of the Institute annually advises more than 25 thousand people.
In 1958, Kharkov became the center of many scientific research. The Institute of Radiology on Pushkinskaya Street organized on its basis a Central Dispensary Commission, the scope of which includes routine inspection of workers who are constantly in the sphere of influence of ionizing radiation. Every year more than 2 thousand people at risk are examined, except for this category of patients, Chernobyl patients are examined. About 600 people annually receive inpatient treatment in the clinic of the institute.
Technical equipment
Extensive therapeutic, diagnostic and surgical work is carried out by the Institute of Radiology (Kharkov). Doctors of the clinic have the highest and first category of qualification, many defended their candidate and doctoral dissertations. The technical base is equipped with modern equipment and apparatus, allowing accurate diagnosis or high-quality treatment.
Patients have access to the Varian and Clinac 600 C (6 MeV) radiotherapeutic complexes manufactured in the USA, several stimulants from well-known manufacturers, and much more. Using modern equipment, gamma radiation is generated, and also the treatment of head and neck tumors in patients at stages 3 and 4 of the disease with a favorable outcome was first tested in the clinic.
The surgical department carries out a huge range of operations, the main emphasis of which is on minimally invasive surgery. The specialists of the oncological surgery department were the first to carry out the most complicated operations with numerous metastases using the Cool-tip. For the first time in Ukraine, the Prizmo blood filtration apparatus was developed in the intensive care unit, which expanded the capabilities of doctors, and gave patients additional chances for recovery.
The patients of the clinic are provided with comfortable conditions, there is the possibility of accommodation in single, double, triple rooms with a high level of service.
Diagnosis and consultation
For the population, the Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) conducts a wide range of studies:

- Radionuclide tests are carried out.
- Ultrasound examinations and diagnostics.
- ECG.
- Histology, cytology, determination of tumor status.
In our own clinical laboratory for diagnostic studies, analyzes of fluids (urine, blood), determine the level and presence of tumor markers, hormones and electrolytes. Patients are admitted daily in a clinic operated by the Institute of Radiology (Kharkov). The schedule of doctors can be found by contacting a consultation appointment, or at the reception.

Reviews
Unfortunately, a high level of cancer and radiation background for Ukraine have become the norm. That is why the Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) is heavily loaded with patients and work. Reviews with positive ratings tell not only about the patient’s difficult path to recovery, but also about the high level of qualifications of doctors and the entire clinic staff. Many specialized specialists express their gratitude not just for health, but for a saved life, their own or those close to them. Patients note that, despite the heavy workload, doctors and nurses are trying to pay maximum attention, to delve into the individual problem of each patient.
Negative reviews were also addressed to individual doctors who did not consider it their duty to provide assistance, skipped duties or demonstrated a lack of knowledge in the specialty. Some patients claim that the clinic requires an additional payment, in addition to the one that has already been paid.
Many talk about the need for repairs in rooms and huge queues in any office, which the Institute of Radiology (Kharkov) cannot get rid of. A mammologist is one of the most sought-after specialists in the clinic, patients complain that getting an appointment is very problematic due to the large flow of people who want to.
