Asha Metallurgical Plant OJSC is a city-forming enterprise in the west of the Chelyabinsk region. AMZ is one of the five leading Russian suppliers of plate, nanocrystalline and amorphous alloys. The leader in the manufacture of tableware, household items and garden tools from stainless steel.
Creature
Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant has a rich history. At the end of the 19th century, industrialist Alexei Umov set about trying to build an ironworks in the Urals. The place was chosen as a “dead corner” in the heart of the taiga, completely covered with forest. Wood was the main source of energy for decades, until 1947. The Balashov brothers, who sponsored the construction, made a special contribution.
The year 1898 is considered the year of foundation of the enterprise. By the beginning of the XX century, several blast furnaces were erected, the first cast iron was obtained. Before the revolution, they managed to build steelmaking and three open-hearth furnaces.
Soviet period
Field of Revolution Asha Metallurgical Plant was nationalized. In the Great Patriotic War, about 700 metallurgists went to the front, 300 of them died. Men were replaced by women, adolescents, old people. AMZ produced valuable products - particularly strong armor steel, the unique characteristics of which were achieved by adding slag.
Until the end of the 40s, the plant did not have its own rolling production. Lost wax ingots were sent for further processing to Zlatoust and Minyar. As part of a large-scale modernization, in 1952 a plate rolling shop (LPC) No. 1 was built, where mainly plate metal was rolled. After 7 years, LPC No. 2, which supplied rental for defense enterprises of the aircraft and shipbuilding complex, started operating.
In 1974, LPC No. 3 was launched with the most modern equipment at that time. Within its walls they produced unique products - a kinescope tape. In the USSR there was no longer such a production. Without this tape, domestic television plants could not produce color TVs. After the end of the era of CRT tubes, the workshop was reprofiled.
In the mid-80s, with the growing shortage of household items, the Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant began manufacturing consumer goods (consumer goods). Here in 1987 the largest workshop for the production of stainless steel cookware was organized in the USSR.
Modern production
With the change of order in 1992, the enterprise was privatized. During this period, a metal thermos becomes the main product of consumer goods. Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant was one of the first to buy a license from the Japanese for this scarce product.
The period from 1997 to 2012 was a turning point. Under the leadership of General Director Vladimir Evstratov, AMZ underwent a radical reconstruction. Obsolete machine tools and equipment were updated, the technological process was transferred from coal to gas. In the 2000s, the range of consumer goods expanded due to gardening tools, products for tourism and recreation.
In the area of "large" metallurgy, JSC "Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant" also awaited dramatic changes. An energy-generating complex was put into operation, a progressive unit, the “ladle-furnace,” was launched, the construction of the ONRS began, and the production of chipboard-120 and continuous casting machines was put into operation. In 2010, the glorious era of open-hearth furnaces ended.
Today the plant is managed by Vladimir Myzgin. Projects launched by the previous administration continue to be implemented. Among the high-profile achievements of recent years is the reconstruction of the first rolling mill and the launch of a limestone kiln.
Industrial products
Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant produces two types of products: steel and consumer goods. The first category includes:
- Three types of rolled products: hot-rolled thin-sheet, cold-rolled and cold-rolled thin-sheet.
- Two types of tapes: from amorphous alloys and cold-rolled steel.
- Various magnetic cores.
- Corrosion resistant electric welded pipes.
- Metal powders.
- Other products.
Consumer goods
Consumers are well aware of AMZ products under the Amet brand due to high-quality steel products. Kitchen utensils, thermoses, cutlery, pans of the Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant have won the hearts of many Russians. By the way, at one of the national competitions TNP, the Professional series pans were recognized as the best. They are made of food-grade high-quality wear-resistant steel with a thickness of 0.8 mm, they are evenly heated and perfectly maintain the set temperature.

Social responsibility
AMZ is a city-forming enterprise. Thanks to the efforts of the factory workers, residential neighborhoods were built (and are being built) in the city of Asha, and centralized heating was provided to the houses. The Palace of Sports, the dispensary "Birch", the Palace of Culture were built. The quality of life of Asha residents has improved significantly.
