For women, the shape of the face is the foundation, knowing which, you can accurately select a hairstyle, makeup, headpiece or other accessory. Without knowledge of the determination methods, difficulties may arise in the independent identification of one's own form, since some of them are similar to each other.
In order not to get confused finally and correctly determine the shape of your face, it is worth using the existing methods.
Oval and round shape
In nature, there are 7 types of face shapes: oval, round, square, rectangular, rhomboid, triangular and pear-shaped.
The oval type is considered to be the reference. This is because any hairstyle, makeup, etc. can be matched to it. The oval face has its own characteristics:
- the length from the chin to the forehead is greater than the width from one cheekbone to another;
- the width of the jaw almost coincides with the width of the forehead;
- the chin is rounded, slightly narrowed;
- cheekbones are pointed, but not massive.
This form is also called ovoid, because it resembles an egg turned upside down.
The round shape of the face differs from the oval in that:
- its length and width are almost identical;
- cheekbones - the largest part, but not weighting the look of the face;
- forehead low;
- narrowed and rounded chin;
- hairline is smooth and round.
Owners of this kind of face look younger and more feminine longer. All thanks to the fact that the round shape of the face visually rejuvenates.
Square, Rectangular and Rhomboid
The square shape of the face has the same dimensions of length and width. The forehead is wide and overhanging. The hairline is straight, without rounding. The chin, jaw and cheekbones are pointed and have an outstanding square shape.
The rectangular shape of the faces of men and women is expressed in greater length in relation to the width. The width of the chin, jaw, cheekbones and forehead is the same. The rectangular type, like the square shape of the face, is immediately visible. Not every hairstyle and make-up suits them.
The owners of such persons try in every possible way to hide the massiveness of the jaw and chin, trying to give the form more rounded features.
You can distinguish the diamond-shaped face from others by the following signs:
- outstanding wide cheekbones;
- pointy chin;
- cone-shaped forehead, not wide.
Owners of such persons, in order to visually βsmoothβ and soften their features, should wear hairstyles that will visually expand their forehead and narrow their cheekbones.
The second name of the rhomboid type is diamond.
Triangular and pear-shaped
The triangular shape of the face is characterized by the following:
- narrowed chin;
- a wide forehead, which sometimes may coincide in width with the cheekbones;
- the width of the face is slightly shorter than the length.
Facial features are clear, cheekbones are pronounced, cheeks are often sunken. The second name of this variety is heart-shaped.
The pear-shaped form is less common than other types of face. It can be distinguished by a massive bottom: the cheekbones and jaw are voluminous.
Trapezoidal is similar to pear-shaped. The only difference is that the first is more rounded and softer, and the second is endowed with clear facial features. But in both cases, the bottom is devoid of pronounced angles of the jaw.
In order to visually reduce the bottom of the presented face variety, it is necessary to choose the right haircut and makeup.
Is it possible to independently determine the shape of the face?
It often happens that a new haircut or a new make-up does not suit their owner at all. This gives rise to frustration and the logical question: βWhy so?β And the thing is that the selected image is completely incompatible with the shape of the face.
Before you go to the stylist, you should independently determine your type. So it will be easier to understand what exactly fits. You can determine your type at home, without resorting to outside help. There are several ways to use it:
- With a mirror.
- Using a measuring tape.
- "4 measurements".
Mirror Definition
You can find out what shape of face you have, using a large mirror, but not a small mirror. Approach your reflection at a distance of half a meter or a little closer, so that your hand reaches out to the mirror without any problems.
Take a washable marker or bright lipstick. Remove all excess hair from the face, stab the bangs. Level your posture and lean your head back slightly.
Standing straight, preferably not moving, circle the outline of your face, starting with the chin, continuing on the cheekbones and contour of the forehead, ending with a line on the chin. You donβt need to trace your ears at all. Consider the resulting contour. Determine which parts are wider, which are narrower. What shape is the forehead, cheekbones and chin: angular or rounded? Straight or rounded hairline. After evaluating all these factors, a figure will begin to emerge that matches the shape of your face.
Tape Measurement
To make this measurement, you will need the following:
- sewing measuring tape (tape measure will not work, because it is tough and it will not be possible to make accurate measurements of the face);
- pen and sheet of paper;
- a mirror in a well-lit room.
On paper write down the following indicators: forehead, face length, cheekbones and jaw. Now go to the mirror and take measurements:
- Attach the tape to the outer corner of the left eye and stretch it to the outer corner of the right. But the tape should not close your eyes when measuring, it must be lowered to the cheekbones. Write down the obtained indicator in the column "cheekbones".
- Next, attach the tape to the most protruding point of the jaw (it is located a couple of centimeters below the ear) and bring it to the chin. Double the resulting number and write the result in the "jaw" column.
- Attach the tape to the widest part of the forehead and stretch it horizontally to the same opposite. This will be an indicator of the width of the forehead.
- Finally, measure the length of the face. Attach the tape to the upper midpoint of the forehead at the level of hair growth and stretch down the nose to the prominent point of the chin. This is an indicator of "face length."
Now it remains to decipher the measurements:
- If the width turned out to be less than the length, and the indicators of the forehead, jaw and cheekbones are almost the same, then this is either an oval type or rectangular. It will be determined by the chin: in the oval type it is narrower and rounded, and in the rectangular type it is angular.
- If the length of the face is 3-4 cm greater than the width of the cheekbones, and the shape of the chin is pointed and angular, then your face shape is a triangle.
- The square and round face types are similar in that the length and width have almost the same indicators with a difference of 1-2 cm. But the shape of the square has a pronounced wide and pointed jaw, and the type of "circle" is rounded.
- In a rhomboid face, the width of the cheekbones has the largest indicator in relation to others.
- The face βpearβ is large in the jaw and cheekbones. Their width is greater than the width of the forehead. The bottom of the face is rounded, does not contain any angles and tapering.
Four measurements
There is another reliable way to determine your face shape. It is called "four measurements." The method is carried out by horizontal measurements of the following parts of the face: the width of the forehead, the lower line of the eyes, the upper line of the lips and one vertical: from the upper central part of the forehead, descending along the nose, and to the protruding part of the chin.
After you can proceed to decipher the measurements:
- if the cheekbone size indicator is 50% or more of the vertical measurement, then the shape of the face is triangular, oval or diamond;
- if the width of the cheekbones and the length of the face are equal or differ by 1-2 cm, then the type of face is a square or a circle;
- if the width of the cheekbones is less than vertical measurement, then the type is a rectangle;
- if the width of the forehead is greater than the measurement of the cheekbones and the upper line of the lips, then we are talking about a triangular shape;
- if the cheekbones are larger than the other horizontal measurements, then one of the following forms is assumed: a rhombus, an oval or a circle;
- if the upper lip line is larger than the rest of the horizontal measurements, then the face type is βpearβ.
Conclusion
Determining the face shape of men and women is a necessary step in choosing a hairstyle. Indeed, often a modern and fashionable haircut is not suitable for everyone, and all because of the fact that it does not match the type of face. And to know for sure what shape your face is, use one or more of the presented methods.
