Anthelmintic drug 'Vermox': instructions for use

Highly effective anthelmintic drugs include Vermox, the instructions for use of which recommend it both for the treatment of nematodes and the withdrawal of flat worms.

The main active ingredient is mebendazole, the principle of which is to violate the formation of tubulin necessary for the life of parasites, as a result of which all types of metabolism in the body of worms are disrupted, and after a couple of days they die. This drug is most effective in getting rid of enterobiosis (pinworms) and trichocephalosis (whipworm). However, a drug can also be used for ascariasis, mixed helminthiasis, teniosis and other types of parasites.

"Vermox" instruction prohibits children under 2 years of age. Also, do not drink it for pregnant and lactating mothers, people with ulcerative colitis, liver failure and Crohn's disease. Hypersensitivity to the components that make up the drug is another contraindication to its use.

Since a large assortment of anthelmintic is currently presented, many are thinking that it is better to choose, for example, Dekaris or Vermox. I must say that, despite the appearance of the same effect, the mechanisms of action are different, because some helminths are more sensitive to one of these drugs, showing resistance to the other.

So, in order to get rid of pinworms "Vermox", the instruction recommends taking it once. In order to remove other types of round parasites, the course of treatment should last 3-4 days, while the drug is used twice a day. Sometimes for prevention, you can repeat the medication after two weeks. Periodically, it is worth taking an analysis of feces and scraping from the anal area. Treatment is considered effective if helminths and their eggs are absent for at least 7 days.

There are cases when side effects are observed even after a single application. Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions can occur here.

If we talk about what is better, "Vermox" or "Pirantel", which is quite popular, it is impossible to unequivocally answer. As well as from other antiparasitic medicines, they differ from each other in action and indications for use. So, the latter is approved for use in children from 6 months, so pediatricians often prefer to prescribe it. However, Vermox has a stronger effect, especially with enterobiosis. Only a specialist will help to figure out which drug is best used, most often, after receiving an analysis that determines the type of parasites with which the patient is infected.

When taking the drug, it is better to temporarily refrain from driving a car, working in dangerous conditions with moving mechanisms. In case of an overdose, pain, nausea, diarrhea, and other unpleasant symptoms can occur. In such a situation, it is recommended to drink activated charcoal, try to empty the stomach, rinse it or induce vomiting, contact a medical institution, describing the symptoms that have appeared. You should avoid prescribing the drug at the same time as taking lipophilic substances. In patients with diabetes, this anthelmintic can reduce the need for insulin. Before you start using Vermox, the instructions should be studied very carefully.

You can take the drug with the goal of preventive deworming. This is especially true in the fall before frost and in the spring. To do this, it is enough to take a 100 mg tablet once, and repeat the dose after 2-3 weeks. Personal hygiene in combination with this medicine will help protect the body from parasites.
