Spine Recovery: Exercise

Spine restoration is a necessary measure during surgical intervention. Spinal surgery is classified as one of the most complex and serious. It should be remembered that recovery can drag on for months and even years. However, a responsible approach to medical recommendations and regular gymnastic practices will help reduce this unpleasant period. Often the success of the entire operation depends on a responsible approach to the recovery phase.

The possibilities are almost unlimited

A few decades ago, medicine could not have imagined that they would learn how to perform spinal surgery effectively, using it in a wide range of cases. Previously, this kind of intervention was very risky. But nowadays, operations have become almost safe, microsurgery is increasingly being used. Due to this, the period of direct intervention is reduced, preparation is simplified, restoration of the spine requires less time.

Statistics show that the predominant percentage of operations is carried out with a positive result. But the patient must remember that not everything depends on the surgeon. It is equally important to undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of a specialist physician, to accurately follow his recommendations.

spinal fracture recovery

Injury is not a sentence

Medicine has proven that recovery from a spinal fracture is absolutely real. The operation is carried out not only in this case, but also with a number of other indications. Rehabilitation measures are worked out in each case individually.

The main objectives of the recovery period:

  • weakening of the pain syndrome;
  • increased healing rate;
  • prevention of complications;
  • return to man of mobility.

The key to success - an individual approach

It is impossible to formulate general recommendations or say what exercises to restore the spine will suit everyone, without exception. As a rule, therapy is formed individually. Specialists take into account the nature of the injury and its scale, the complexity of the situation and the individual characteristics of the body.

Rehabilitation is a period when medicine takes everything possible so that a person can live comfortably. Remember: immediately after surgery, even the simplest movements bring pain. To cope with the problem, you can practice special poses, as well as sets of exercises to get rid of stress. It will not necessarily be classical gymnastics. In recent years, yoga practices and exercises that have come from Buddhism are increasingly being applied.

Time heals and cripples

When visiting a medical center, you must remember that only 1-2 classes will not give any result. Practice shows: during operations on the spine, the rehabilitation period rarely lasts less than three months, often drags on for a year or several years.

The sooner you begin to restore the cartilage of the spine, the less time it will take. If a lot of time has passed between the operation and the course of restoring mobility, you need to consult a high-class doctor with good recommendations so that he can find the set of exercises that will be effective in your case.

Physiotherapy

It is believed that just such a set of measures is most effective when surgery has affected the spine. Treatment, recovery in this case allows you to return mobility to a person, which means to eliminate blood circulation problems. A set of classes is practiced, during which:

  • muscle tone returns;
  • blood flow increases;
  • the body returns to normal in the shortest possible time.

Physiotherapy

During this therapy, the restoration of the cartilage of the spine occurs under the influence of:

  • cold
  • heat;
  • electric current;
  • ultrasound;
  • magnetic field;
  • laser.

In the process of impact on the spine, regenerative mechanisms are activated, wounds heal faster, pain goes around, blood circulation in organs and tissues improves. In recent years, in addition to traditional methods of physiotherapy, new developments are increasingly being used that show increased effectiveness.

Simulators

The postoperative period for the patient is associated with long periods without movement, when a person sits or lies. The human body is normally mobile, so such restrictions are unnatural.

Reducing the negative consequences of surgical intervention, it is recommended to operate the simulators developed for this. They help a person to be upright, despite recent trauma. The restoration of the spine in such conditions is much faster.

exercises to restore the spine

Qigong

Qigong exercises that came to us from the East proved to be very good in different situations, and recovery from spinal surgery was no exception. It is recommended to resort to this technique under the supervision of the doctor responsible for the recovery period of the patient.

It all starts with the sensation of your own body. Initial posture: the legs are shoulder width apart so that the feet are parallel to each other. The knees bend slightly, raising the pelvis, but not pushing the buttocks back. Hands hang freely, chin is lowered and crown is tending. This pose is the starting point for all exercises. It symbolizes the connection of physiology and consciousness.

Crane neck

In this exercise, the chin is pressed to the neck, stretching forward. Fix the body for a couple of seconds. Then they lower their heads, moving as smoothly as possible, lift them up and again return to their original position.

Clean breath

If restoration of the cervical spine is contemplated , then this practice may be particularly useful. Inhale through the nose with a full breast, then exhale, releasing air through the mouth. The stomach is strained and pressed into itself. They make sure that the body as a whole relaxes. Draw analogies with a puppet, which no one else controls, and she is finally left to her own free will.

Turtle neck

With this exercise, the chin must be carefully pressed directly to the neck, then lower your head lower to the chest. In this position, the body is fixed. The head should be parallel to the surface of the earth, while the chin is gradually directed forward. Then they gently raise their heads so that their eyes look at the sky. Return to the starting position.

Dragon soared to the clouds

The exercise begins with the arms on the sides, lifting them to the shoulders. Then they lower their hands, make a lock, raise them to their chest. The folded arms are fixed at the level of the forehead, turn, open closed hands and tend with the whole body to the sky.

The elbow is lowered, the other is raised, displacing the chest. The body must be turned to the elbow that is raised. When the body passes the point of greatest tension, the position of the elbows is changed, turning the body.

Yoga and hernia of the spine

The spine is formed by vertebrae flexibly interconnected. The mobility of such a system is guaranteed by intervertebral discs. The load every day, uncomfortable conditions, an unhealthy environment become the causes of the development of various diseases. More than once the patient was diagnosed with a vertebral hernia.

Tissue degeneration, muscle weakness, bone destruction leads to pathology, the elimination of which in some cases is possible only by surgery. However, practice shows that doctors prefer to practice conservative therapy whenever possible, but perhaps this is not always the case. In any treatment option, one of the most important stages in restoring a personโ€™s quality of life is recovery from a hernia of the spine.

As the yogis are convinced, muscle effort is the best therapeutic tool to restore a personโ€™s health. The correct practice of physical activity allows you to cure all parts of the spine even when the pathology has been started. Yoga for the back affects each part of the body individually, allowing a person to re-learn the joy of free and painless movement. Exercises are called asanas. Restoring the spine through yoga is possible, but to achieve a tangible result, you need to perform them daily.

spinal restoration

How it works?

The specifics of yoga are as follows: asanas must be held for a long time. During classes, the pressure inside the discs decreases, which positively affects not only the affected areas, but also healthy ones. With a hernia of the spine, such an effect is rightly considered one of the most effective.

In the practice of exercises, the joints become softer, more mobile, the tissues turn into elastic, the muscles strengthen. With static voltage, the motor-neuron apparatus is activated, due to which the functionality of the spine is restored.

The practice of yoga allows you to act on only the complex spine, but also on selected organs. This is corrected by the selection of various asanas. It is recommended to practice under the supervision of a doctor, to practice exercises at least once a day.

Where do we start?

Before embarking on the asanas, they do preparatory exercises: bend over, turn around, rotate their heads. They move calmly, rhythmically, slowly, repeating each movement 10 times. Having finished, proceed directly to yoga.

The very first pose is tadasana. It consists in sipping. After that, you can start other exercises. It is carried out as follows:

  1. Sit in a comfortable position.
  2. Raise their hands.
  3. Pull out the spine.
  4. The elbow joints are bent, bred, thereby setting the shoulders parallel to the floor surface.
  5. Brushes are directed upward, forming a figure resembling a candlestick.
  6. Turn your head left and right, then throw it.
  7. Repeat this several times, increasing the mobility of the vertebrae every day.

Ardha Matsyendrasana

If the operation on the spine has been postponed, yoga recovery necessarily includes the exercise of Ardha Matsyendrasana.

Simplified version: choose a place in the room a step away from the wall and stand straight. Inhaling, they raise their right hand, turn their torso and head to the right, trying to reach the wall. On exhalation, they return to their original position.

A more complex option must be practiced daily as soon as it has been mastered.

  1. They sit on the right thigh, bend the right knee, trying to touch the left buttock with their fingers.
  2. Having bent the right knee, they transfer the leg through the other.
  3. With the whole body turn left.
  4. The right hand is held under the knee on the left.
  5. The left hand is wound behind the back, trying to close his palms.
  6. Head turn left.
  7. Raise the chin.

It is recommended that the exercise be done in the central part of the gym or as a final exercise.

Yoga Triangles

If a person has had a spinal fracture, recovery is delayed for a long time. Without the right set of rehabilitation measures, it is possible to permanently lose mobility and, therefore, the quality of life. An effective measure will be the practice of yoga exercises, started as quickly as possible as health permits. When you can start, the doctor will say for sure, assessing the patient's condition. Remember: in a hurry to engage in yoga, you can cause yourself additional trauma. Therefore, be extremely careful.

So, the triangles of yoga. Two are widespread: inverted and lateral. The first is called Parivrita Triconasana, the second - Parivatriconasana.

Parivrita Triconasana is done as follows:

  1. The initial stance is feet shoulder width apart.
  2. The right palm is laid on the floor at the foot with the fingers of the left in the direction of the heel.
  3. Left hand raised.
  4. The head is turned back.
  5. Look at your fingertips.

This exercise can be done both at the beginning and in the middle or end of the complex.

Parivatriconasana is done like this:

  1. The initial posture is a wide lunge to the right with a foot bent at the knee to 90 ยฐ.
  2. On the left foot, the fingers are pointing up, on the right foot, to the side.
  3. The body is bent to a bent knee.
  4. The left hand is pulled up and to the right.
  5. The right arm is bent, placed on a bent leg (you can simply straighten and hang it down).
  6. The head is taken up, looking in front of you.
  7. Strive to ensure that the chest is close to the thigh. Every day they try to reduce this distance.

And what to finish?

Shavasana is recommended as the final exercise. It relaxes the body, restores strength. It takes about five minutes, but you can stay in this position for two hours.

The technique is as follows: lie on your back, spreading your legs at an angle of 45 ยฐ. Muscles relax, breathe deeply, calm down and expel all thoughts from the head.
