The border of Ukraine has a fairly large length - 7700 km. Of these, 1960 km, it stretches along the seas and 5740 km by land. The territory of the state captures the Black and Azov Seas. Among European countries, in its length, it occupies an honorable first place.
The borders of Ukraine are located in such a way that it borders on seven states: the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, Moldova, Romania, Poland, Hungary and the Slovak Republic. The longest of them are considered to be the borders with Russia, Moldova and Belarus. Due to its maritime territory, Ukraine also has “common points of contact” with Turkey, Georgia and Bulgaria.
With some countries, borders pass through plains and mountains. The Carpathians - the conditional line of separation of Romania, Poland and Slovakia with Ukraine.
The capital of Ukraine is Kiev
The capital of Ukraine, a hero city and just a settlement that all of Ukraine can be proud of is Kiev. In addition, it is considered the largest in the state. It is an administrative-territorial unit, as well as a center of culture, politics, economics, transport, science and religion. The city has a special status, does not belong to the Kiev region and the Kiev-Svyatoshinsky district, but according to the documents it is listed as their center.
By geographical location, Kiev is located in the northern part of Ukraine, namely in its center. In Europe, in terms of population, the capital occupies an honorable seventh place, behind Istanbul, Moscow, London, Peter, Berlin and Madrid. The history of this city is so rich that you can talk about it for hours. Throughout its existence, Kiev has been the capital of the Polish race, Kievan Rus and the Principality, the UPR, the UPRS, the Ukrainian state and the Ukrainian SSR. And only in 1991 Ukraine was recognized as independent, and the hero city as its center. He, like all other regional centers, has his own coat of arms and flag. Due to the fact that in the past this settlement was of great importance for the Russians, it is still unofficially called the "mother of Russian cities."
Borders of Ukraine
In the north and north-west, the borders of Ukraine with some states (Russia, Belarus, Poland) pass through lowlands and wetlands. The eastern part of the entire border line with the Russian Federation passes through continuous plains, on which there are no borders. A line of demarcation with Hungary and Slovakia passes through the Transcarpathian lowland. In the west, through the mountains and foothill areas, a border has formed with Moldova, Slovakia, Poland and Romania.
The territory of Ukraine has strengthened so well in the center of the so-called European border that it gradually increases its military importance and influence both on its own population and on neighboring countries, since the issue of saving state borders remains an issue that the entire EU is involved in solving. Due to the fact that the natural boundaries in some areas are considered a dream, the country also has to spend a sufficient amount of budgetary funds on the construction and strengthening of defensive columns, etc.
Regions of Ukraine
Scientists and historians divide Ukraine into 15 regions. Some of them live richly, some poor. But they are all part of a great and mighty power. The territory of Ukraine is conditionally split into two parts: Eastern and Western. Each of them is divided into several territories:
1. Chernihiv.
2. Kiev region.
3. The Dnieper.
4. The Sea of Azov.
5. Donbass.
6. Slobozhanina.
7. Black Sea coast (the Crimean peninsula also applies here).
8. The skirts.
9. Poltava region.
10. Bessarabia.
11. Bukovina.
12. Galicia (Lemkovschina, Boykovschina and Hutsulshchina are also attributed to this region).
13. Transcarpathia.
14. Volhynia.
15. Polesie.
The listed regions of Ukraine are united due to the official division into regions, of which there are 24 in the country.
Chernihiv
Chernihiv region is located in the northern part of the state. Includes Chernihiv region, part of Sumy and Slavutich. Citizens of Ukraine living here may notice that the relief of this area is quite simple, since almost the entire region lies on the East European Plain.
About 1100 rivers flow here. Their total length is 8 thousand km. In addition to them, tourists are attracted by interesting animals listed in the Red Book: bison, jerboas, bats, ferrets, cranes, owls, etc. Such regions of Ukraine as Chernihiv region also have a sufficient number of reserves. There are three parks on the territory (one landscape, two natural). These indicators increase the tourism potential.
As of 2015, about a million people live in the region. Of these, Ukrainians make up more than 90% of the inhabitants, you can also meet Belarusians and Russians.
Kiev region
The second most important area is Kiev region. Its difference lies in the fact that one city, allegedly part of this region, is not a resident, but acts as an independent separate administrative-territorial unit. This is a powerful city of such a state as Ukraine - Kiev.
The population of the district is more than half a million people (as of 2013). The climate is mild, winters are slightly cool, summers are warm. The north of the Kiev region is located on the Polesskaya lowland, the eastern part is on the Dnieper, the south and the center of the district is on the Dnieper Upland. It has permanent river valleys, ravines and cliffs.
Like many other areas that arise in my head after the question “How is Ukraine divided” and which belong to the Dnieper, part of the Kiev region lies on its shore.
Dnieper
The area is located in the center of Ukraine, near the Dnieper and the Bug. Dnieper reaches more than 24 thousand km 2 . If you use the map, you can safely say that it borders on 6 cities: Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolaev, Vinnitsa. It occupies the third position on the issue of “how Ukraine is divided.”
Archaeologists, having carried out one very interesting and important study, found that the first life in this area arose in the 10th century BC. In the historical sphere, almost nothing interesting happened. In the XIII century, the Kirovograd region was under the rule of Lithuania, and already from 1569 - Poland.
The current territory of the Dnieper region is located exactly in the place where the Cossack Sich and the first Cossacks originated.
Azov region
The Sea of Azov ranks fourth in the list of “How Ukraine is Divided” in its length. It includes some parts of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson region, as well as several cities of regional importance (Mariupol, Melitopol and Berdyansk).
It is the center of metallurgy in Ukraine. Thanks to Mariupol, in which several factories were built, it is in the Azov region that more than one third of all Ukrainian production of steel, cast iron, coke, pipes, etc. is produced.
Sufficiently developed in this area can be called transportation. There are three seaports : Mariupol, Taganrog, Berdyansk. The agricultural sector, food industry and fishing are well developed and supported by the government.
Donbass
Donbass is a region that arose a long time ago and still leaves its traditions, customs and everyday life unchanged. Fifth in the rating “How Ukraine is divided” by its area. It includes the Donetsk region and the south of Lugansk.
Donbass was originally a technically developed part of the state. Donetsk coal basin was discovered by scientists in 1720, and since then it has been developed. It occupies about 60 thousand km. Coal reserves here are quite large. Deposits with a total mass of 140 million tons were found at a depth of up to 1700 m.
Due to the fact that the Luhansk region and Donetsk closely communicated with each other, made compromises, sought common interests, they were unofficially united into a region called Donbass. Citizens of Ukraine noticed that in addition to goals, these two areas have approximately the same economic sphere, historical and cultural.
For several decades, it has been the largest center of the coal industry and metallurgy (both non-ferrous and ferrous).
The border between Russia and Ukraine. Country Relations
In Europe, there are few neighboring countries that can boast a long joint history, nations, as well as mutual interests, economic features and other issues uniting these two countries - Ukraine and Russia. A map of Ukraine with cities perfectly shows how strongly, densely "complement each other" these countries are.
Before the military conflict, the following data were clarified by the respondents: the majority (44%) are inclined to believe that the states will continue to create ideal conditions for existence. After all, for many years they were called sisters. You can even observe that many industries and spheres have the same structure and are set up for close cooperation. The second part of the voters (28%) spoke in favor of the fact that the regions of Ukraine, as well as the government of the whole country, will have good relations with the Federation. The rest (9%) voted for the deterioration of all ties between the two states. A little more than six hundred people participated in this survey; the most believers in the bright future seemed that good relations would be maintained for at least a century. People who were less than 45 years old voiced the forecast, more based on caution.
Now there is a major conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, but it is necessary to believe that soon all the differences will disappear.
The Russian border with Ukraine has existed since 1991. The dispute between the countries over the Crimean peninsula is considered incomplete. Guards are built around the perimeter, barriers and artificial columns are installed.
