The heroes of the works of Evgeny Ivanovich Nosov often became ordinary people, immigrants from the people. Despite the fact that the author describes the natural landscapes in detail, conveys the depth of the characters of his characters with amazing accuracy, his narratives are extremely concise and dynamic. The village girl, whose name is Varka, has been working on the collective farm house for the third summer in a row. She volunteered to take care of the little ducklings, helping adults grow a bird. But in the spring Varka saw fluffy loudly squeaking chicks, an unknown force pulled her to a distant river old woman, where buildings for keeping ducks were located. A feeble-eyed boy with frightened eyes, for the first time saw a newly arrived gypsy on the porch of Varka's collective farm. Nosov does not even describe the summary of their meeting, focusing only on the girl’s feelings. The worn clothes of the little wanderer, his restless appearance made Varka pity, she really wanted Chairman Parashechkin to let the gypsies stay in the village.
Sasha, apparently, is the same age as the main character. But he does not go to school, because, having only two education classes, he is embarrassed to sit at the same desk with the kids. The young man works on a collective farm, carrying out simple tasks: grazing horses, bringing bags of food to the same house. Sasha’s dream is to become a machine operator. But for this you need to finish at least 7 classes. The guy takes lessons at home from the head teacher of a local school, and in his spare time he reads Pushkin.
Day chores and night wanderings
On this day, Sasha came to the house with duck food. A guy with tar-black, curly-haired hair immediately surrounded the girls, began to make sharp jokes at him. The gypsies in the village were not much respected and were a little afraid of the look of his deep dark eyes. Only Varka did not take part in the general fun. Having got out of the water, Varka heard the roar of a tractor plowing over a collective farm field. The thought flashed through my mind to run away to see who was sent for night work. But while the girl was going around the lake, the tractor managed to go to the far end of the site. But nearby Varka noticed a flashing light and decided to go there to warm herself. To the surprise of the girl, there was no one except a grazing horse at the fire.
