In 1926, the novel “The Republic of SKID” was written. Its authors were G. Belykh and L. Panteleev. Thirty years later, director Gennady Poloka decided to film the work. The authors of the story were former students of the school. Dostoevsky. The work, however, is not without artistic fiction. Actors of the film “Republic of SKID” are both professional, experienced artists and beginners. Among them were several juvenile delinquents.
History of creation
The film "Republic of SKID" (1966) tells the story of complex teenagers who ended up in a boarding school, created in 1920. The head of this institution was a teacher Victor Soroka-Rosinsky. Sergey Yuryevich played it in the film Jurassic. The script for the film was written by one of the authors - L. Panteleev. Belykh had already been arrested. According to one version, behind bars he ended up as a result of Panteleev’s denunciation.
Criticism of the writer
According to the author of the book, the actors of the movie "Republic of ShKID" played with insight. But Panteleev did not like the picture itself. He even wrote several angry articles in central Soviet newspapers. First of all, Alexei Panteleev was unhappy that the young actors of the film "Republic of ShKID" created on the screen images of teenagers who are always at war with each other, start fights, engage in usury. Yes, all this was in a boarding school. But his pupils also spent a lot of time reading, learning foreign languages, staging plays on works of art. The life of Shkidovites looks on the screen much more rude than in the book.
Censorship
The premiere took place in 1966. The film won the love of Soviet viewers and broke all box office records. However, the release of the film was preceded by a long, painful story. The director originally shot a two-part feature film. As a result of constant reductions, his work turned into a picture, the duration of which is only an hour and a half. The content of the film did not correspond to the propaganda image of the life of adolescents in a socialist state.
One of the scenes was completely cut out. We are talking about episodes in which the actors of the film "Republic of ShKID" recreate on the screen a complete mess of boarding school students. A high school student is engaged in usury, thereby acquiring money and ordering food in a restaurant. Little Shkidovites at the same time play the role of waiters.
“How would such an outrage be allowed by the Soviet regime?” - Asked the creator of the film one of the reputable employees of Lenfilm. Shelf had nothing to answer. Children and adolescents in the Soviet Union were the most honest, hardworking, ideologically correct. And arguing with this statement is more expensive.
The creator of this film often heard criticisms of the plot, even many years after the premiere. Particularly outraged by the elections, which staged Shkidovtsy. The event was too reminiscent of the American political system.
Cast
The main role was played in the film by Jurassic Sergey Yuryevich. It is worth noting that in the book Wikniksor is more likely a secondary character. In those days, the leaders of the film studio recommended, and sometimes insisted, on the approval of one or another actor. So, the director of the film “The Republic of SKID” was proposed by Andrei Popov in the role of Vikniksor. However, Gennady Poloka rejected this candidacy. Despite the fact that a good part of the plot was destroyed by censorship, the film was liked by both young viewers and adults. It is noteworthy that eleven directors refused to film the work written by Panteleev. But even after the shooting came to an end, the film still lay on the shelf for some time. Alexander Kavalerov, who played the role of Mom, appeared on the site at the age of fourteen. After the premiere of the film, fame came to him, which, however, had a rather negative impact on his fate. Kavalerov was married several times. He became the father of six children. However, he suffered from alcohol dependence and in old age found himself on the street.
Sparrow was played by Vyacheslav Romanov. The boy came from a family of professional car thieves. Arthur Isaev was also brought from the colony to the set. He ended up there as a result of beating his own father. Isaev played extremely talented. After filming, George Tovstonogov decided to take him to the Leningrad Theater Institute. But it turned out that Isaev graduated from only six classes. About any receipt and speech could not go.
Alexey Dogadayev played the role of Savushka. He did not become an actor, but he tried many professions. Dogadaev was a sailor, and a surveyor, and a builder.
Soviet criticism called the Poloka film "an encyclopedia for bullies." But still the film turned out to be unusually kind, humane, life-affirming. Over the entire existence of the picture looked more than seventeen million viewers.
