Treatment of tonsillitis in children and during pregnancy

Tonsillitis is a disease that occurs due to inflammation of the tonsils. The cause of its development may be some bacteria, but most often the child’s immune system can cope with them. As a rule, infection occurs from another patient by airborne droplets. Very often, children become infected from patients who do not have pronounced symptoms of the disease. Treatment of tonsillitis in children needs to be started immediately, because the presence of infection in the body weakens it and is poisoned by toxins, as a result of which general intoxication begins.

Distinguish between acute and chronic tonsillitis. The treatment of tonsillitis in children with an acute form leads to the complete restoration of tonsil tissue and their protective function.

If the child has a chronic form of the disease, treatment can be prompt or conservative. With this form of the disease, changes in the structure of the tonsils occur, and there is some loss of their functionality. Treatment in this case is with antibacterial drugs. The doctor gives more specific recommendations only after receiving an analysis of the nature of the causative agent of the disease. As a rule, the complex of medicines includes antiseptics and drugs that have an analgesic effect. The fact is that a serious inflammatory process leads to severe pain.

In the chronic form, treatment of tonsillitis in children provides for compliance with a set of special recommendations:

  1. It is necessary to observe the daily regimen, adhere to the diet prescribed by the doctor, rich in vitamins.
  2. The child needs to be outdoors as often as possible and longer, to perform regular physical exercises (only without overvoltage).
  3. An important role in the treatment is played by hardening of the body, as well as positive emotions.

As a rule, treatment of tonsillitis in children should be carried out on an outpatient basis, but in some cases hospitalization is required. The course of therapy includes regular treatment of tonsils, rinsing and inhalation. Treatment of tonsillitis with antibiotics is regulated and prescribed only by a doctor. Self-administration of any drugs is excluded.

The main mistake in treatment is the desire to finish it as soon as possible. It should be remembered that inflammation that is not treated can cause relapse over time. If the parents do not adhere to the doctor’s recommendations and arbitrarily stop giving the child the prescribed medications, tonsillitis becomes chronic, and this can lead to the removal of the tonsils.

Doctors do not agree on what age is most acceptable for a child to remove tonsils. Therefore, it is much easier to prevent the operation by treating tonsillitis in a timely manner than then being operated on.

Very often, tonsil inflammation occurs in women expecting a baby. Treatment of tonsillitis during pregnancy involves the use of conservative techniques. The selection of necessary medicines should be carried out by a qualified specialist, but do not forget to warn him that you are expecting a baby. The fact is that many medications have an adverse effect on the fetus, and this should not be allowed.

As a rule, antibiotics of the penicillin series are prescribed. Antihistamines are not prescribed, given pregnancy and future breastfeeding. The same applies to taking antipyretic drugs. However, multivitamins play an important role in maintaining vitality and normalizing the functioning of organs.

Prescribe rinses, lubrication of tonsils, lacunae washing - in short, during pregnancy, local therapy is actively used, but only under the strict supervision of an otolaryngologist.
