Any catarrhal disease accompanied by difficulty in nasal breathing is always difficult to tolerate. Indeed, feelings of sore throat, headache and general discomfort, due to the need to breathe through the mouth, are added to fever and other symptoms. Most often resort to the usual treatment with tablets. But what if it is ineffective, and the disease smoothly flows into sinusitis, threatening to go into an incurable chronic form? In this case, there are several possible solutions:
- take a course of taking antibiotics (including injections). The medicine is carried by the bloodstream throughout the body, including the sinuses;
- directly affect localized bacteria in the nose by instillation of drugs and warming. Many popular methods can also be attributed to this, for example, laying cotton wool soaked in onions and honey in the nasal passages;
- Perform a nose wash using the Cuckoo method.
If, as a rule, no questions arise with the first two methods, then even the expression “cuckoo moving” is completely unknown to many.
This method was proposed by the American physician V. Proetz. Its meaning is to rinse the sinuses with a medical solution. Since the nasal passages of both nostrils are interconnected with the general system, this allows you to pour the medicine into one, and remove it from the other. Compared with simple instillation, the efficiency is several times higher due to a more thorough treatment of the focus of infection with drugs, as well as removal of pus and microbes from the body. As a result, inflammation decreases and nasal breathing resumes, the mucous membrane normalizes.
The second name of the method is “cuckoo”. Rinsing the nose has such a funny name for the simple reason that when it is performed, the patient is recommended to make the sounds “cuckoo”. Interesting fact: it really doesn't matter what to say. After several sessions, many adults manage not to make sounds at all, having learned how to breathe correctly. Speech is needed so that tense septa do not allow fluid to enter the larynx. A person can consciously control them, and not use the reflex mechanism. Of course, it’s easier for children to say “cuckoo.”
To answer the question "how to do nose washing", first of all, you need to familiarize yourself with the general rules. Knowing them, you can correctly perform the procedure even at home.
So, the doctor prescribed the cuckoo procedure. Nasal lavage in this case is carried out in a medical institution. The patient is laid on the couch, and his head is thrown back a little. A therapeutic solution is slowly fed into one nostril, and is sucked off from the other by a vacuum device. In the process, you can simply breathe correctly without swallowing the drug, or follow the recommendations justifying the name “cuckoo”. Rinsing the nose in time takes no more than five minutes. The patient does not experience any pain.
The total number of visits to the office should not exceed 10 times. In winter, it is allowed to go out into the open air not earlier than after 2 hours, and in summer after 30-40 minutes. Without observing this condition, hypothermia of the sinuses is possible with the rest of the drug. Contraindications are nosebleeds and epileptic seizures.
What to do if the hospital does not have a cuckoo apparatus? Rinsing the nose can be done independently at home. To do this, you need to purchase a special irrigator at the pharmacy. It is a plastic bottle with a cap-nose. Having prepared a warm medicinal product, tilt your head over the washbasin, the nose of the bottle is tightly placed in the nostril and slowly rinse the nasal passages. In this case, the solution flows from another nostril. The intensity is regulated by pressing on the bottle.
